1001 Albums Summary

- first album of 1001 - One of those notorious albums that become famous due to a few notable hits. The vast majority of the album is a slog to get through but chipping away toward the albums' namesake - and 'Respect' made the session generally worthwhile. All around decent, obvious influences apparent in most music but otherwise nothing to write home about.

I'll give it one thing, the instrumentation is at least diverse. Unfortunately I'm of the firm belief that the medium is the message and Rap is a bad medium. Certain legendarytracks like 'dance with the devil' by immortal technique can actually make Rap a beautiful medium but ultimately even the greatest will always be held down by the medium. This album had a great influence mostly for the worst but putting aside any culture or power it may have had on its own, it's simply bad.

C'mon let's be honest, you put this one in here to feel like it wasn't just western music eh? Awful.

As always with led zeppelin: great average quality but once you've heard one song you've heard 'em all.

Definitely the most miserable listen yet. I would advise taking ice cube as the larper he is and engaging with his work through a more comedic lense. When he isn't shelling out surface level political slop his music is just pointless whining. To his credit he shines the best when he's writing about fictional characters or scenarios. 'Today was a good day' solely justifies this tracks existence - would recommend skipping to it and then chucking your CD out.

Great vocal work, diverse bag of tricks. Repetitive base and mopey sound though.

There is before and after hearing Station to station. To describe this album as anything other than life changing is an understatement. This is Bowie's Magnum Opus, a drug fueled archetypal exploration of the relationship between Collectivist Frenzy and Eulysnian Kabbalastic Occultism. The striving for a greater tomorrow both in action and faith yet the tragedy of idealism all embodied by The Thin White Duke, a beautiful hypocrite. This album alone justified my journey through 1001.

Instrumentation 3. album structure (ex: if an album only has one good song vs has a good general theme between tracks) 4. Syntactic complexity 5. I remember being pleasantly surprised by this one, Janet definitely surpasses MJ as an artist. Good instrumentation, great track diversity and structure. Good vocals but unfortunately lyrics are a little weak and far too many interludes. Solid 3

Vocal work is atrocious, there’s an Eminem lamp shading tactic - but even if you admit you can’t sing you still can’t sing. Instrumentation is incredibly repetitive, As in every song is the exact same song repetitive. It’s not even a good song they’re regurgitating. Lyrics are good actually which is my only takeaway. I quite liked the namesake surprisingly. Little to no syntactic complexity, though the songs do blend well for the whole album ( again if only for being the same ). Solid 2/5

Surprisingly wonderful lyrics and soothing vocal work, though instrumentation is incredibly repetitive. No wonder my Parents love 'em so much.

90% of the album: Man when does the music start?!- Where is my mind: Physiologically, spiritually and metaphysically morphs into Ryan Gosling, staring into the abyss smoking a cigarette, bruised and battered. Literally me.

Came in real skeptical, they beat my cynicism back. Boring instrumentals except for guitarist who seriously killed it. Vocalist really made it though, seriously charismatic. Mid syntax but I'll let it slide. Worth my time
