1001 Albums Summary

04/09/26 - I think I've listened to it in full before? some of the medley was a little unfamiliar but that might just be in comparison to the Side A songs I've heard approximately a million times songs from this were used to incredible effect in Lindsay Ellis' Yoko Ono video often considered the Beatles' best and I might have to agree though The White Album and Revolver are my personal favourites I actually really enjoy the weirdness of Maxwell's Silver Hammer - Paul's giggle just over a minute in is a highlight of the whole album forgot how good I Want You (She's So Heavy) is! my favourite on this particular listen medley is amazingly tightly constructed A little conflicted on whether her Majesty was a truly necessary addition but i like it nonetheless A well earned and expected 5/5

06/09/26 - totally unfamiliar to me but really liked it! every song written while Neil Young had a fever is incredible

never heard before (apart from Juicy & Big Poppa) several songs I'd listen to again, really liked this one but what is Biggie's problem with Tina Turner?? also docked -1 star for the unpleasant discovery that Diddy was reponsible for the production I was enjoying so much

mostly new to me - 4.5/5 (rounded down as I'm trying to save my fives!) favourites: Whole Lotta Love, Thank You, Heartbreaker, Ramble On Living Loving Maid & Moby Dick could probably have been left off

never heard before apart from Can I Kick It of course - ended up loving 4.5/5 rounded down

mostly new to me - very serviceable and pleasant listening new wave but not exactly Talking Heads

I love 80s British music!! can't be a 5 as it loses a bit of steam in the middle but there's some absolute classics in here

#8 - first album so far to be not my taste at all! not an unenjoyable listen (apart from Dumb Girl, which was horrible) and I appreciate Run-D.M.C's influence and legacy but will probably not be returning to this one hence a totally subjective 2/5

#9 - No Compassion is a new favourite!

good timing because I'd just seen Absolute Beginners a few days ago and realised my life needs more Bowie immediately 5/5, no skips!!

apt name but why did I have to listen to over an hour of the assorted love songs before getting to Layla? Suspect I would have appreciated this more if I played guitar as Clapton is absolutely tearing it up throughout but it's a 2/5 from me

first album so far that I had legitimately never heard of, not my favourite but a solid 3/5 with some songs I will be revisiting

was excited for this one as a prog appreciator and occasional contrarian and I was not disappointed! the opener Sea Song is particularly gorgeous, though the vocalising in the outro might have to grow on me; I did appreciate it more when Wyatt was pretending to be a trumpet in A Last Straw very proto-Radiohead as noted by other reviewers it did make me feel like I needed to listen to The Cars by The Cars again as a palate cleanser but I give it a musical palate-expanding & contrarian 3.5/5, rounded down as I didn't enjoy Alifib/Alife as much as the other songs

beautiful, flows seamlessly from one to the next

embarrassed to admit that I didn't realise Only Love Can Break Your Heart wasn't a Saint Etienne original some truly lovely songs, others a bit warbly another strong 3/5 from Neil - may need to reassess my rating of ektik
