The Stranger by Billy Joel
Sep 07 2026

I don’t like his high-pitched voice or the simple little tunes. I can’t bring myself to listen to the whole album. Did it anyway. ‘Vienna’ is the best track.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Sep 09 2026

One of the finest albums I know. ‘What’s Going On’. Need I say more?

The White Album by Beatles
Sep 10 2026

I don’t need to listen to it. I know it off by heart.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Sep 11 2026

listened to the anniversary CD. I loved the Bowie Mix more than the others. The live recordings had loads of energy. They’re from a time before punk even existed. Now, after all the punk madness, they’re better to listen to than other punk bands. I can only play it when I’m home on my own, otherwise my wife walks out straight away. The Stooges had long since disappeared from my radar. It’s lovely to revisit this. Some of the songs are simply beautiful.

Sea Change by Beck
Sep 14 2026

Just as AC/DC is far too heavy for my taste, this album by Beck is far too saccharine. I imagine that if I’d been a teenage girl, I’d have lost myself in the atmosphere the album creates. I can listen to it, mind you. It’s better than AC/DC, but this music isn’t really for me either. I thought ‘Paper Tiger’ was the best track.

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Sep 15 2026

I’m really trying my best to make sense of it, but I just can’t. Even my ears are protesting.

The Poet by Bobby Womack
Sep 16 2026

When I started playing the album, it cheered me up – what lovely music. To be honest, after five tracks I’d had enough. I still think it’s lovely music, but not for an entire album. My advice is to just play the first side of the LP and then switch to something else.

Ray Of Light by Madonna
Sep 17 2026

Madonna. Madonna is a guilty pleasure for me. Ever since *Crazy for You* and, of course, *Rain*. Brilliant. Back then, when the album came out, I couldn’t believe my ears. Innovative, different, and yet still Madonna. Not all the tracks are great, but that’s a problem many artists with good albums face.

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Sep 18 2026

A fantastic album. Everything she sings transports me to a different world, puts me in a different frame of mind. Her timing is on a par with Sinatra’s. All her albums belong on the ‘1000 Albums’ list.

1999 by Prince
Sep 21 2026

Prince is a fantastic artist and an exceptionally talented guitarist. I love his funk. Many of his albums feature excellent tracks, but there isn’t a single one that I think is so good that it deserves a place in a top 1000 list—except that it would be inappropriate not to include him in such a compilation. I couldn’t say that this is his best album, but which one is?
