1001 Albums Summary

Aretha really makes every song on this her own. There's a lot of raw emotional intimacy on this album as well as a lot of just raw power (see: Respect). Love the bossa nova on Don't Let Me Lose This Dream. A common complaint about this one is a lack of variety after the first track but I honestly can't complain because it just works. I'm too much of a romantic for the apparent "sameness" of the lyrics to bother me. They call this soul music for a reason.

Really loved this one. Started off a little slow for me but quickly got into a groove. Deliciously funky, exceptionally musically right and lyrics hit incredibly hard. Made me want to hit repeat straight away.

Oh, I pledge a grooveligence to the funk alright. Hypnotically groovy. Has an eleven minute song called Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers). I listened on YouTube (not on Spotify but really easy to find) which had the twelve minute version of Who Says A Funk Band Can't Play Rock and the guitar wankery had me laughing and going "BRILLIANT!". Just genuinely fun and really joyful, but crikey if some of the songs don't go on a bit. It's like they're grooving around every single town in the United States to unite them under the Groove.

Title track is okay but the rest is just incredibly one-note. I thought an hour had passed and it'd only been ten minutes. I skipped the last three tracks. Music for old farts.

A Day In The Life is worth 5 stars alone tbh
