Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Nov 03 2026

This sounds really flat to me now, at least at first. I've probably heard this album 100 times and remember it being so much more bombastic. I hate how Welcome to the Jungle sounds, surely "the jungle" is untamed, wild? But it doesn't feel anything like that, immediately followed by Axl sounding bored out of his fucking mind on "It's so easy". Thankfully after that Axl seems to have woken up and the rhythms become much more driving and energetic, even hurried, panicked in places. Welcome to the Jungle still fuckin sucks though

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Nov 04 2026

Not the biggest fan of big band Jazz but this feels kind of cozy, it feels like a smaller band with a lot of support at least early on. I really liked"Duet" it feels so cheeky like a much more imperious song was intended but little interruptions to that constantly peek in. Overall it's just a fun romp through upbeat, energetic, punchy Jazz. The sort of thing that inspired so many sounds you heard in old Cartoons and Movies, there's a reason for that, and it's because this is something people scoring shows and movies wanted to emulate so badly (or in some cases Neal Hefti literally did them)

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Nov 05 2026

Hard to believe that this is their first album. Goes hard as hell in places, I love that the drums are so ever-present and that there's so little care given to making this sound "pretty". Intentionally a little bit rough sounding.
