Five seconds into "And it stoned me" and I'm like, OK I get it, the rest is going to be like this then. Just one 38 minute long folky-rock track, I'm probably just going to let this wash over. Then Moondance comes on and *jazz hands*. Alright 'Van', let's see what's going on, my ears are open. Unfortunately it didn't pique my interest much after that. Very enjoyable, easy listening but I've got to say, none of these tracks are going to make my most listened 2021. Nevertheless, I respect your talent Mr Van and, perhaps most importantly, you are not Iron Maiden.
Some really great, fun tracks on here, especially Asylum - very up my street. I can't decide, either I really like Supertramp, or I hate Iron Maiden so much I was just relieved not to have to sit through another one.
Wow, what an incredible album, listened straight through twice. Had to take a second in between to appreciate that this was made in 1969! Cool, sexy, and incredibly well produced. Plus, any musician that borrows this many terms from neuroanatomy gets an extra point from me. Rest in peace, Chef.
PJ Harvey is a wonderful human
Embarrassingly only knew of 'Our House' from this album, which is far from the best track. The whole album is so sweet. Instantly a new favourite from the era.
I used to think Iron Maiden were largely overrated and pretty boring, so I have been avoiding listening to them for 15 years. After listening to this I now I think they are boring and largely overrated. Maybe in 1980 this would have been cool? Or maybe it would have just been faster than everything else.

I can't not see Gaz Coombes talking to Ali G about "Super-grass". The whole Britpop thing is a bit of a mystery to me, I know all the classics but haven't really pored through the albums before. I was actually pretty surprised and pleased with this. It somehow sends me back to a time in the 90s that I was too young to remember or experience in any meaningful way. It's gives us some hope, we've suffered through 16 years of Tory bullshit, but Blair is on the horizon, who we naively believe to be basically Jesus Christ who plays guitar instead of wasting his time on carpentry. Separate note: Martyn, after reading your review I listened to The Mouse and the Mask - what an incredible album!

Definitely some great tracks on here, but unfortunately much of it came across as indistinguishable 70's rock
Angel Sigh is a fantastic track. Really cool album, nothing more to say.
I do love Stereolab, but this is not my favourite album (Refried Ectoplasm for those taking score). Still, Metronomic Underground is a classic!

Beautiful album
