I agree with Andy here. This album is too busy from start to finish. There’s too much going on during the opener and the closer. Is this indie, pop, or rock? It’s all of the above. Is it amazing, good, bad, or garbage? Again all of the above. Props to Dancing Choose for giving me Everything Everything vibes and for Golden Age for giving us a cool Phish cover. I thought Family Tree, Love Dog and DLZ were some of the better songs. All 11 songs had the potential to be something but couldn’t commit. I’m shocked this got as much praise as it did in 08.

The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths
This is regarded as the best album of all time and I can finally see why. It’s mostly sad and lonely (that’s the Smiths in a nutshell) but Morrissey is self aware and adds a touch of self deprecating humor sprinkled throughout the album. This album is very well written and Morrissey and Marr are so underrated when compared to the greatest rock duos.
Do I consider this the best album of all time? No, I'm not even sure if this is the best Smiths album. Now I know how Joan of Arc felt.
Recommended tracks:
I Know It’s Over, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out, Bigmouth Strikes Again, Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others, and the title track

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
The Flaming Lips
I’m a sucker for a space adventure and this one was a pleasant one at that. Within seconds of hitting play we’re grabbed into the space aesthetic. I thought this was an early 2010’s album and I was shocked to find out this album is from 02. I’m not sure I really like any songs on their own. The whole album flows very well and does an exceptional job of painting the space atmosphere. It’s Summertime is very beatlesque but definitely not the highlight of the album. The best is not a single track found in the middle or the end of the album. Most of the fun is found in the first five songs and scattered in small parts in the back half of the album. I was looking forward to Yoshimi’s battle with cancer over the course of the album. The greatness of the album both lyrically and musically is mostly only present in the front half. The saying "it’s not about the destination it's about the journey" applies to all 47 minutes of this album. You will definitely find me playing this song on repeat from time to time.

Ritual De Lo Habitual
Jane's Addiction
“Stop” is my favorite thing to come out of the 1990. Okay other than my brother (my mom made me say that).
“No One’s Leaving” On my first listen this was my favorite song of the three songs sandwiched between Stop and Been Caught Stealing. Now I’d place it at the bottom. Decent song. Great guitar solo.
“Ain’t No Right” I did not like that intro. Why does that exist? I agree with the politics though.I like the actual song too.
“Obvious” I don’t know what to make of it. It takes a while for the song to find it’s pacing and I like it once it does. I definitely appreciated it more on my second listen through the album.
I can hear the dogs barking just by reading “Been Caught Stealing”. No more words are necessary.
“Three Days is a banger. A 10+ minute absolute banger. The pacing is just perfect. Sounds fun to drum to too.
“Then She Did” has a completely different energy than Three Days but it doesn’t make it any less powerful than its predecessor.
“Of Course” is just not for me. I’m not a big psychedelic guy so take that with a grain of salt.
“Classic Girl”
I love the lyrics to this one.

Tusk
Fleetwood Mac
Tusk is the White Album of the 70’s. It’s all over the place. There’s something for everyone to enjoy and there’s something for everyone to skip. At the end of the 70’s bands such as The Police embraced the synth. Tusk instead chose to embrace punk. The album has a few songs on it that remind me of garage rock.
Speaking of garage rock, Mick got replaced by Ringo on “What Makes You Think You're the One”. Someone tell me otherwise. It sounds like a drummer just showed up for the gig and has never heard the song before. I can’t stand that it is sandwiched between my two favorite songs on the album. Lyrics have the potential to be something but the drums didn’t allow that to happen. On “Not That Funny” punk enters the ring and I respect them for it. Just not my thing. I’m definitely skipping those two on relistens.
Songs I liked:
Over & Over
The Ledge:
Think About Me
That’s All for Everyone
Angel- I really liked this one lyrically.
Brown Eyes
Beautiful Child
Tusk- The famous title track. I didn’t get the hype but I liked it.
MUST LISTENS
“Sara” is just Fleetwood Mac doing Fleetwood Mac things. Amazing song with a side of love triangles and a pinch of a love affair. I couldn't figure out what the lyrics meant on “Sisters of the Moon” but then apparently neither could Stevie Nicks. The music is a fantastic jam and stands out as one of the best songs on the album. “Storms” is one of their best songs and the biggest reason why Tusk is an essential Fleetwood Mac album.

Oedipus Schmoedipus
Barry Adamson
I’ve never heard of the guy and googled him. Someone described his solo music as “soundtracks for movies that don't exist” and I think that sums it up perfectly. Barry Adamson has a wide range of tools he’s showcasing for us and I had a lot of fun creating movies in my mind as I listened along. It’s a unique album but none of the songs feel as if they belong next to each other. I think a 2.5 would more accurately portray my feelings for this album. My favorites are The Big Bamboozle and Something Wicked This Way Comes.

I love the singles. "how do you sleep?" is a 9 minute bop. Definitely a good post-punk album.

Remain In Light
Talking Heads
My brain thinks this is 5 stars. It influenced so many artists over the past 40+ years. I love the grooves but my heart would only give this 3 stars so I settled with 4
