It isn't quite like anything I have heard before. Sighing vocals, very airy and echo-y. Very unconventional song structures. Have to admit, I guess my ear is too unsophisticated for this. It is just too weird.

Kind Of Blue
Miles Davis
Forget for a moment that the Wikipedia article says "Kind of Blue has been regarded by many critics as the greatest jazz record, Davis's masterpiece, and one of the best albums of all time."
This is music we have heard our whole lives. There is clearly a reason for this. This is music that is composed, not just a jam session. This is technical art.
You can either listen intently or just have it playing in the background.
This is an album that has been STUDIED for decades. In the end, your opinion of whether you like it or not is completely irrelevant.

I had the 45 of Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) when I was a kid. The rest of the album does not sound like this track. While it may be a little difficult to access for someone as white as I am, one thing that really comes through is how much JOY went into making this music.

Autobahn
Kraftwerk
I'm guessing the title track, running at 22:48, took up an entire album side. It gets a bit repetitive, but is actually pretty in places. Driving on the Autobahn must be much more relaxing than US Interstates.
One must remember this is a pioneering work in synthpop, so if it doesn't sound as polished as later works, that is why.

Iggy Pop
I can imagine this sounded like nothing else back in 1977. The collaboration with Bowie is obvious; he mostly sounds like Bowie with a harder edge.

Sounds a little like Dido. Her voice is just okay. Too feely for me.

This guy is from Public Image Ltd. The album mixes world music with some weird/cool grooves. Some elements reminiscent of INXS, Sugar Ray. A collection of very good musicians doing something they aren't taking all that seriously.

Mark Knopfler is on the list of guitar gods. Rather hear him play than sing, but his voice is integral to the Dire Straits sound

Very enjoyable. Released in 1993, but the songs could have been released in 1973. It just has a sound that is not tied to the era it was released. It sure as hell ain't grunge.

Well, I guess I am a Paul Weller fan now. Really liking the melodic punk sound. Like The Clash, but easier to listen to.

Nice. Not what I was expecting. Like New Age jazz on Indian instruments, along with flute and guitar
