1001 Albums Summary

Smooth. Good, confident storytelling on the longer tracks. Iconic voice. Slow orchestral builds are incredibly effective and beautiful on the longer songs. The song "One Woman" hit the happy balance between the gradual crescendos + shorter length. By The Time I Get to Phoenix has an AMAZING climax, but the spoken words parts take over 10 minutes. Hyperbolicsyllabic(...) is nice and groovy, but a bit repetitive. Walk On By

Trashy. Nicely punchy. Bouncy. But not catchy. Annoying, sparse vocals. Compressed. Feels like the sort of thing you'd hear behind a weird, morphing, edgy cartoon montage in the 2000s. Listenable. There's competent rapping on some (only one?) of these! This is much cooler than the more trance-like, rave-y repeating ones. Very much like Fatboy Slim (same genre/period), but crunchier than what I've heard. Transitions between songs! Badass! But all rather one-note sonically. Standouts: Diesel power (rapping), mindfields (trippy beat), climbatize (cool rattling percussion, and then it opens up with an ethereal section and continues to develop unlike the other songs) Final feelings: Aggravated. Head-nodding, but bored. Some fun beats but the lack of variety spoils them.

Rock parts feel kind of stock... Blues parts are awesome. Weirdly, I found the least popular songs (more bluesy than rock?) to be the best: You Shook Me and Your Time is Gonna Come.

Enchanting, soft yet... plunky, and beautiful. John Martyn has a raspy, tranquilized voice... that just glides over these bright yet calm... retro-sounding... bouncy... quasi-tropical (?) instrumentals. Like the most peaceful, fog-blurred vacation.
