Popular Reviews

Any record that starts out with a track like Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding is going to have to have every other track be pretty terrible for me to give it anything less than 4 starts. The rest of the record is pretty amazing as well. 5 Stars it is. Grey Seal has always been a deep cut that I love to hear. I really paid attention to it first way back when I got the Elton John box set. (remember those?) All the Girls Love Alice and Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting? No wonder Goodbye is such a well loved record. Yes, I skipped Candle in the Wind. I have always loved this song. But, I have to admit that once it moved from a Marylin Monroe song to Princess Di, it lost a bit of luster for me. I understand how well it fit the time, but, it's Marylin's song. Lady Di deserved her own.

Elephant by The White Stripes
Sep 13 2021

Definitely an album I should have explored more... Very nice.

All Mod Cons by The Jam
Sep 14 2021

The Jam is a band I had heard spoken of as an influence many, many times but had never listed to. I enjoyed this record each one of the 3 times I listened to it. I found it interesting to hear just a little bit of punk sensibilities as punk was winding down. I felt a softening of the sharp edges of that punk scene. I also heard it's later resurgence that would be played by Green Day and Blink 182. I'm glad I spent some time with it, but it's not really my jam (sorry). While I enjoyed it for a day, it will not have a place in my regular playlist.

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Sep 15 2021

Bitches Brew I am familiar with. I have always loved side 2 more than side 1. The record was one of the first true jazz records I spent any real quality time with. I wish I could remember the name of my History of Jazz professor because he is the one that introduced me to Miles, and so many more.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Sep 16 2021

While I have heard every track on this record many, many, MANY times, I had never sat down and spent time with the record as a whole. I found it interesting but very repetitive. It makes a nice background when you are looking for something a little heavier. On that note, this is not a heavy album at all. I had always thought of Deep Purple as a much harder, deeper band. I enjoyed the record, I listened to it once. I think that is all I need.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Sep 17 2021

As with a lot of the records showing up in my queue, Sign 'O' The Times is something familiar but not something I spent much time with. I really like Prince and I enjoyed this work as well. It gets a little nasty, so it is not something I'd throw on with other folks around, but, if it comes up in my playlist I would not hit skip. Not my favorite Prince collection, but, have not heard much Prince that is bad...

Not a fan. I don't see the point of vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity sake and shock value. I skipped through most of the record and then decided it wasn't for me and moved on.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Sep 21 2021

Fight Test felt very familiar and yet different. After a second listen it was pretty obvious that the song was HIGHLY influenced by Cat Stevens. The first Yoshimi track was way too "noisy" for me, but the second was pretty cool. Overall I like the record. There are a couple of tracks I would add to a playlist of 'fun' music.

Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson
Sep 23 2021

I listened to this years and years ago. It's been a minute since I've spent any time with MM. Let's see how it goes... later... Well, heart rate is up, and I'm suddenly angry with my keyboard. So, MM has not changed much since I used to listen. I'm going to cherry pick the rest of this record for old times and then file it away for a few more years.

Time Out Of Mind by Bob Dylan
Sep 24 2021

This record has spent a bit of Time Out of Mind. I loved it when it came out and listened to it endlessly for a while. I enjoyed spending time with it all day today. It has been added to my regular playlists.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Sep 28 2021

Listened to the first bit of Thunder Road, closed Spotify and pulled up some bootlegs. Amazing record; songs meant to be heard live.

Sep 30 2021

this is now on regular, workday rotation. great background for cleaning out Outlook...

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Oct 01 2021

hmmm, we'll see... Was great for background when I was gaming. Daughter hated it in the car. Thumbs Up.

Hysteria by Def Leppard
Oct 04 2021

Do I have to? Was not really a fan back in the day. I'll give it a solid 'meh' today.
