Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello

felt incredibly unimpressive. it was boring and dragged out. i found myself constantly wondering when the album would end. when i found i wasn’t even halfway through, i became upset. it’s not horrible, but it’s so ordinary. costello’s vocals at times are irritating. this album sounds like something a dad would play for you to assert musical superiority, even when in all reality the album is super mediocre.

I love how intimate this album feels. It’s warm, it’s inviting. It’s the album equivalent to taking a sip of hot tea. Sarah’s voice is absolutely incredible. Even with this being said, I didn’t find myself fully engaged by it. I’m not entirely sure why. I will say, this album would be great to bake to! It just gives that cozy feeling :)

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen

extremely corny but i still found myself dancing a little!

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers

such an incredibly fun album. it’s funky, it’s silly, it’s camp! i love RHCP. this album has some of my all-time favorite RHCP songs, too (such as “Breaking the Girl” <3333) do i think this is the best RHCP album? no. but it’s still undeniably entertaining. can’t understand what Kiedis is saying? SO WHAT!! let yourself be immersed in his gibberish. if you don’t like this album, you’re probably a reaaaally boring person. you must be fun at parties…..

Rum Sodomy & The Lash by The Pogues

not my cup of tea. it wasn’t bad i guess, but i was bored the entire time. i’m sure witnessing this live would be a completely different story, but i personally was not feeling the energy just by sitting and listening. you know that one scene in Tangled? where they sing “I’ve Got a Dream”? this album reminds me of that song. the only difference is i actually enjoyed “I’ve Got a Dream”. now THAT makes me want to dance

i didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. it had the potential to be a 4 but some of the songs just dragged out. i also wasn't a fan of a few of the tracks, those definitely brought down the album. i feel like it wasn’t very outstanding. maybe i’ll revisit it, but i don’t feel a strong urge to

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo

an incredibly serene album. the harmonies are beautifully done. listening to this album was calming and immersive, even with how simple it was! i thoroughly enjoyed listening to this :) the mouth sounds (e.g. clicking, hissing) were an interesting and lovely addition to the singing. it adds another level to the a capella. i really appreciate this diverse recommendation and would love to hear more like it!
