I had always associated Deep Purple with smoke on the water and a simple uninspired sound, but I was very wrong. They definitely listened to some Hendrix before writing this album because I can see a lot of the influence. Really enjoyed the synths throughout the record. I also like how the vocals feel like an instrument harmonizing with the rest of the band, rather than overpowering the whole song.
I can respect the inspiration this album had and how groundbreaking this album may have been for its time, but definitely not for me. Sounds like a killer video game soundtrack maybe? I LOVE the album art though, would make a cool tattoo.
Very good. I very much could see how they inspired / were inspired by the Beatles and other rock bands of this era.
I've heard most of these songs a million times over again, but never sequentially in the album. It was a cool mix of classic Chili Pepper vibes and EXTREMELY funkyness that they lean in to from time to time. I personally enjoy Californiacation more, but that could be nostalgia talking.
Did not anticipate to fall in love with a 90's electric pop /jazz / house album from an Icelandic woman but this album is amazing. I don't know how to describe it other than atmospheric, each song like transported me to a scene in my head. This song had me sitting in an old 1940s Jazz bar sitting by myself observing the other people at the bar and listening to conversations. It really feels like Bjork just went to different areas and scenes and just sung off the cuff into a microphone. I can 100% understand if this doesn't appeal to some though, the experience was to rich for though
This album upon a first listen sounds like a love ballad to a former lover that he’s since moved on from and reminiscing about. No clue if that’s even true, and I didn’t pay the best attention to the lyrics, but that’s what the sound of the album made me feel. I also see a lot of similarities between McLeans work on this album and the likes of Billy Joel. All I’m saying is Billy Joel could’ve done American Pie, but Don McLean could have never done The Stranger.
This album just has a classic feel to it. Really easy to listen to and not much wrong with it. I also feel there wasn’t necessarily anything standout about it compared to other classic rock, but it taps into a nostalgia I think a lot of people probably hold for classic rock without having even heard any of the songs on the record. I will say though, I’ll probabaly listen to this album more and more because it’s such a good album to drive to.

U2 was my first concert I grew up listening to them so I have entirely too much nostalgia. I know people hate them because of their album being downloaded onto everyone’s phone that one year… but imo that’s more of an Apple issue and this album specifically is so good man. Just classics.
Album was really solid. It is a classic 90's Alt Rock album for sure.
