Rio
Duran Duran
This album was released over 15 years before I was born, but I've heard of it before.
1. Rio - Obviously have heard this one before. First encounter with this song was on Glee - happy to say the original is better. A hit. Saved. 8/10
2. My Own Way - I liked it, but it didn't have the same punch as Rio did. 6/10
3. Lonely in Your Nightmare - Big fan of the melody and instrumentation. Love that main lyric "'Cause you're lonely in your nightmare, let me in". Saved. 7/10
4. Hungry Like The Wolf - Another song I originally heard on Glee. I know Duran Duran were 80s heartthrobs but Darren Criss and Matt Bomer did a pretty good performance of this one, and looked great doing it.... That being said, it's obviously a catchy tune but not my favourite. I loved the guitar at 2:25, though. 7/10
5. Hold Back the Rain - Not my favourite, felt very similar to Hungry Like the Wolf just... less catchy? 5/10
6. New Religion - Really liked this one. Saved. 7/10
7. Last Chance on the Stairway - Liked it. Nice song
8. Save a Prayer - Honestly, this song was too long. I was ready for it to end at the halfway mark. But it's certainly not a bad song, just not one I would seek out again. Great hook, though. 6.5/10. If it was shorter, it'd be a 7.
9. The Chauffeur - I liked that this was different from the other songs of the album (which were getting a bit samey). Cool tune. 7/10
Overall - the bass slaps. No bad songs. Didn't wow me though. Initial response: 3/5 rating

Let It Bleed
The Rolling Stones
Obviously familiar with the Rolling Stones, but I've never listened to a whole album of theirs before.
1. Gimme Shelter - Already had this saved. Amazing. 10/10
2. Love In Vain - Nice and blues-y. Like it a lot. Saved. 8/10.
3. Country Honk - Well-constructed country song. Just not really my style. 7/10
4. Live With Me - Liked it, but nothing special. 6/10
5. Let It Bleed - Enjoyable rock song. Saved. 7.5/10.
6. Midnight Rambler - Fun song, didn't love it. 7/10
7. You Got The Silver - Weakest song so far. 5/10
8. Monkey Man - Nice tune. Loved the guitars. 7/10
9. You Can't Always Get What You Want - Obviously an iconic song. I really dislike the choir at the beginning, but the rest is obviously great. 9/10
Overall my initial instinct is to rate it 4/5. Solid album.

Cloud Nine
The Temptations
A bit annoying only half the album is on Spotify, so I used Youtube.
I have never heard more than the few super iconic songs of this group, and this isn't a genre I typically listen to so I was quite excited to give this album a go!
1. Cloud Nine - Quite funky, I liked it a lot. 8/10
2. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Nice song. Google says it is a cover, but it's a good one. 7/10
3. Runaway Child, Running Wild - Really liked this one, intense theme. 8/10
4. Love is A Hurtin' Thing - A lot calmer. 8/10
5. Hey Girl - Very sedate compared to the other songs so far. I quite liked the more relaxed tune. 7/10
6. Why Did She Have To Leave Me (Why Did She Have To Go) - Lovely vocals. 8/10
7. I Need Your Lovin' - More of the same, not as good. 6/10
8. Don't Let Him Take Your Love From Me - I liked this one, I really liked the drums and horns. 7/10
9. I Gotta Find A Way (To Get You Back) - The repetitiveness of this album is getting to me. It's still a good song but dampened by everything that's come before it in the album. 7/10
10. Gonna Keep On Tryin' Till I Win Your Love - I liked the tune, it's a rather sweet song. I really like the instrumental at 2:15. 7/10
Objectively excellent music, but not my style - didn't save anything and doubt I will ever listen again, but I can appreciate it for what it is. Rather repetitive at times, but a good album. 3/5 is my initial thought

The Gershwin Songbook
Ella Fitzgerald
She's a legend... but I'd only ever listened to one or two songs by her. Incredible voice is undeniable. Not my genre of choice, however. Listened to 'The Very Best Of', not the huge version.
They are all enjoyable songs to listen to. Her voice is spectacular and carried me through the songs easily with no complaints. Songs could be quite repetitive.
Overall: wonderful voice, good songs. Not something I'd listen to again, though.
Favs: I Got Rhythm, Embraceable You, Someone To Watch Over Me

Physical Graffiti
Led Zeppelin
I've been a Led Zeppelin fan since I was 15, but this was never one of my favourites of their albums, and I haven't listened to it since then. Interesting to give it another go 8 years later.
1. Custard Pie - Fairly weak opener in my opinion. 5/10
2. The Rover - Good song in what I would consider to be the classic Led Zeppelin style, but it's not a stand-out. 6.5/10
3. In My Times of Dying - Looooong song. Good though. 7/10
4. Houses of the Holy - Liked it. 7/10
5. Trampled Under Foot - The instruments on this are sooo good. 8/10
6. Kashmir - Absolutely iconic. 10/10
7. In The Light - Love this one 9/10
8. Bron-Yr-Aur - Nice, folksy sound. 7/10
9. Down by the Seaside - Does what the title implies. Could definitely see myself listening to this at the seaside. 6/10
10. Ten Years Gone - Long, but wonderfully constructed. 8/10
11. Night Flight - Good song, but honestly this album is starting to drag, length-wise, at this point. 7/10
12. The Wanton Song - I love the word "wanton", it brings out my inner historical romance obsessive. 7/10
13. Boogie with Stu - Fun song, 7/10
14. Black Country Woman - Interesting one. 7/10
15. Sick Again - Disappointing ending to a good album tbh. 6/10
Bit of a chore to sit and listen to purely because of the length, but I liked most of the songs even though they don't match the level of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs.
Fav tracks: Kashmir, In the Light, Ten Years Gone
Least Fav tracks: Custard Pie, Sick Again
Initial rating 4/5

Electric Prunes
The Electric Prunes
I've never heard of this band before, no idea what to expect.
1. I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night) - Really good song, catchy. 8/10
2. Bangles - Decent song, 6/10
3. Onie - Kind of loved this one, it was slow and sweet-sounding, 8/10
4. Are You Lovin' Me More (But Enjoying It Less) - Didn't like very much, 4/10
5. Train for Tomorrow - Weak song, I feel like the lyrics and the instrumental just really did not fit together well. 3/10
6. Sold to the Highest Bidder - Very interesting... borderline bizarre. But I liked it despite it being a bit of a chaotic mess of a song. 6/10
7. Get Me to the World on Time - Okay, 5/10
8. About a Quarter to Nine -Another of these middling-type songs. This one is totally inoffensive but, as a result, bland. Nothing special. 5/10
9. The King Is in the Counting House - Nursery rhyme? Not a fan. 2/10
10. Luvin' - Certainly better than the previous few tracks, but still nothing special. 6/10
11. Try Me on for Size - More of the same. 4/10
12. The Toonerville Trolley - Dreadful, to be honest. 2/10
A real mixed-bag of songs here. A few terrible, a couple good, many average.
Favs: I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night), Onie
Least favs: The Toonerville Trolley, The King is in the Counting House, Train for Tomorrow
Initial rating: 2/5.

Rejoicing In The Hands
Devendra Banhart
I don't love the vocals, but it is very much in keeping with the style of the genre.
Songs are nice, I quite liked them. The earlier songs in the album were much better than the later ones - it ended up feeling like a dragged out collection

I liked it, though I don’t think it’s their best. Sunny Afternoon is clearly the strongest track, but I also liked “Dandy” and “Session Man”

In Utero
Nirvana
1. Serve the servants 5/10
2. Scentless apprentice. I liked the guitar. Not anything else. 5/10
3. Heart-Shaped Box. I recognised parts of this one, not sure from where though. I liked the first minute and then he started yelling and I didn’t like it as much. Still decent 7/10
4. Rape Me - Despite the uncomfortable title, this is my favourite on the album so far. 8/10
5. Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge - 5/10
6. Dumb - 5/10. Just very mediocre
7. Very Ape - 5/10
8. Milk It - 5/10
9. Pennyroyal Tea - My favourite on the album overall. 8/10
10. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter - 6/10
11. Tourette’s - 5/10
12. All Apologies - 6/10
I find some of Cobain’s vocals in this to be incredibly grating. I’m not anti-yell or anti-screaming in songs (I love riot grrl and punk music) but… his version of that just didn’t work for me. When he was singing at a quieter calmer tone I enjoyed it a lot more.
This will probably bug some people, but I guess I just don’t get the whole Nirvana thing. I find the many 5 star reviews to be somewhat confounding, though I feel the same about the 1 star reviews.
2.5/5, rounded up to 3.
