1001 Albums Summary

I listened to this album when I was in college (when it came out). I had forgotten there were so many hits on it. I had also forgotten that everything was mixed with mid-range prominent for playing on car stereos back then. This album is the definition of funky.

I know this is supposed to be a ground-breaking album. But....I just don't care for highly synthesized music. It is easy to tell which cuts ended up being the best known. They stand out on this album.

An album with a ton of hits. Each song is unique. And, most include things that other bands were not doing at the time (e.g., use of a sitar; counterpoint guitar riffs; madrigal piano riffs; use of a cello; use of a mellowtone horn; etc.). Tying them all together were the beautiful harmonies. Still a great album after all this time.

I tried to listen to 3 different songs and could not get through them. If you are into mainly bass with synthesized random sounds on top, this is the album for you but not for me.

Just not my kind of music. I sampled 4 or 5 but couldn't finish them. I'm beginning to think 100 Albums Generator is not for me.
