Ritual De Lo Habitual
Jane's Addiction
It was an interesting listen. There wasn’t much melody in the vocals to latch on or remember, but the instrumentation I remember being really great. It’s refreshing to hear a band just drums, guitar, bass, and piano and how they can arrange different songs for a full album. I think my favorites were actually the longer tracks towards the end. The beginning felt like I was playing tony hawk in a good way. Definitely impressed by how well guitar drums and bass were so locked with their parts at all time. Cool listen, but wouldn’t listen again probably

I understand this is a classic band and “technically” a classic album but man it’s just not for me I guess. They do the “wall of sound” vibe really well and the guitar tones are great but just kinda the same throughout the whole record. I feel like this is the kind’ve music that’s more fun to play than to listen to. I was not enjoying the album until track six which I believe was disarm (I already knew that song) and that one was good and admittedly I did like the second half of the album more than the first. Geek USA was a standout.
My ears just got so tired of it and I found myself tuning out a lot.

Gotta be honest it takes a lot of balls to record something like this and release it. The whole time listening to it all I could think about was them in the studio recording it and it made it a little easier to listen to. The back half of Helga was my favorite part. This album would make a great horror movie soundtrack. Terrible music though I recognize they perfectly executed what they were going for

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this album. I was very impressed with the tracks specifically, only a few songs I thought had melodies strong enough to hang on to. The guitar tones all throughout were really unique and didn’t get boring to listen to. The sonic space created in some of the songs were really nice to listen to. The vocals weren’t all that impressive, but they did have some nice moments throughout the album. Didn’t really connect lyrically with much, but maybe I just wasn’t listening hard enough. Overall enjoyed listening and musically was really pleasant. Might dive into it again for the guitar tones hehe

This album kinda had me torn and I was going to give it a 3, but decided to give it a 4 simply because it was recorded so well.
This album made me feel the same way I feel about Jacob Collier sometimes. When the music is TOO musical I feel it takes away from the songs. And I think this album was walking on that line just a little much for me. The only one I felt like I could fully breathe and appreciate was Lost Cause. Lyrically I thought was one of the more sound ones, and the parts weren’t too too intricate. Really enjoyed that song.
The sonics overall on the album were really great. There were a few times throughout the album where some bell lead lines were a little harsh when i feel they needed to be pleasant. And I thought it was a strange mix choice to have the strings be the loudest thing in Paper Tiger (I think it was that one).
Lyrically and melodically I didn’t enjoy a ton of his vocal performances with the exception of a few. Overall it is a well thought out and recorded album. For me I think just a little tooo thought out that it felt unnatural some songs. Anyways overall good album

If I Should Fall From Grace With God
The Pogues
Gonna be honest I just tried laying down in bed with my AirPods and goin thru this before sleep and I tried..I did. But after about 3 songs I can just tell how this album is gonna be.
I’m sure there are some standouts on this album, atleast ONE..but man his voice is just unbearable to me. It’s crazy how if Marcus Mumford sang this I’d prolly like it, but nah can’t stay up for this. Musically was cool and I’m sure there are some on this album that I’d like more than the first 3, maybe I’ll revisit.
Gonna give a very generous 3 just because I’m sure some people in Europe love this album and this man’s voice, and I don’t wanna disrespect them

Morrissey
This was a pretty interesting listen. At first I actually quite liked it and his voice and the music all together. I’d never really listened to morrissey that much, but doesn’t feel like I’ll be revisiting this album. It became kind’ve monotonous halfway through even though his voice is nice. And some of his lyrics are kinda aggressive, I don’t know much about him or his life but dam some of them were talkin about holding grudges and how girls seek so much attention? Idk I didn’t listen too hard so I’m prolly missing a deeper meaning but overall doesn’t really excite me to listen.

I really really enjoyed this album. Tasteful playing all around and even counter melodies. Sometimes there was like 3-4 Melodie’s all happening at the same time and it worked? Didn’t bother me at all. Sonics were great. Sometimes a lil harsh on the sitar but hey that’s the vibe. Super tight drums and drum breaks, loved all the percussion happening. This is something I’m keeping in my library and when I’m tired of words I’ll live here for a bit. Fantastic synth work and really enjoyed the whole album with the exception of the ocean song. 13 minutes or whatever it was, was just a lil too long. Beautiful track but yea anyways I’m done loved this tbh

The Byrds
I actually really enjoyed this album. For ‘67 it felt like they were pretty tech savvy and experimental?? Like the first song having the crowd of girls screaming on so you wanna be a store. And there’s the end of one where they sped up a vocal that sounded dope. Couple tracks with reverse guitars and stuff. I’m not educated to know whether or not this was pushing the envelope at that time but I don’t think I’ve heard any sonics this dated that have those elements?
Lyrically they were spittin some real shit!! From the first song I knew it would be a dope album, talking about the reality of being a rockstar. It got a little dull towards the end but I’m also really tired and was sleepy this morning finishing it. All in all, really enjoyed it, but prolly won’t listen again a ton

Twas a hard listen for me personally for the majority of it. With the exception of Chemical Warfare, and the nice pleasant surprise at the end of realizing this is the band who sings Holiday in Cambodia, and Viva Loss Vegas! Luckily they were somewhat redeemed for me by the many hours spent as a kid playing guitar hero 3 so for that I will give this album a 3. Just wasn’t very good for a lot of the songs in my opinion. Guitar riffs felt boring/monotonous after a while and the vocals just horrendous to listen to for the majority.

I weirdly enjoyed this album! It felt like a bunch of 40 year old dads making a band. The arrangements and sonics were actually great, nothing was uneasy to listen to. The vocals sounded a lil goofy at times but nothing that wasn’t still at the very least fun to listen to. All of the songs sounded different enough that I never felt like they were repeating ideas too much. At times felt like a poor man’s Peter Gabriel or somethin haha.
Really dope album and a cool listen, though I probably will not be revisiting.

Bob Dylan
I’ve only ever heard impressions of Bob Dylan tbh this was my first time listening to him properly. Every impression I’ve heard was pretty spot on! Overall I enjoyed the album. His vocals are sometimes hard to listen to but I get that that’s his vibe and he’s just story teller through and through. Though sometimes it just felt like madlibs lol I could always fill in the blanks of his lyrics before he actually got there.
Musically was dope! Pretty good sonics and easy to listen to. Prolly won’t be revisiting

Man this was cool to listen to. I have a weird perspective cause I got into rap like 2014 (to pimp a butterfly was my intro) so to hear an OG album like this was cool. It’s pretty wild they can do pretty much the same flow every song and it work. Loved a lot of these tracks. It was interesting to hear songs like perfection and dumb girl where it’s literally just like drums and vocals.
Production wise, a lot of this still holds up!! Very pleasing to listen to as a whole
