1001 Albums Summary

although the riffs are similar, they have enough character and are individually iconic to not feel rote. lyrics are less flowery than my favorite songwriters, but that’s the point- the lyrics are blunt, hard hitting, and shouting uncomfortable truths from the cafeteria table. iconic record

wow! great record, fascinating history. love socialist records. funnily similar to the RATM record from the day before, thematically. glad to know it.

It was good, for sure! Not exactly my cup of tea- felt repetitive, as can be the nature of blues without good solos. Dylan still has some of his lyrical mastery from his earlier days, but he seems to have shed some of his penchant for elegant storytelling and poignant poetry along the way, to me.

Didn’t love it! Not my jam, at least not today. Will probably revisit one day as I know it’s an important record (all of these are), but the mix was too jarringly bad to me.

yeah it was alright, not new wavey enough to be a great new wave record to me and not anything else in a way I love. fun listen, not offensive

lyrically a wonderful album. Leonard Cohen is a master of songwriting. However, he is definitely not the master of vocals, or interesting arrangement. His vocal delivery honestly detracts from the quality of the lyricism for me.

i can tell why it was popular! i like the energy, but i don’t love his voice. the band doesn’t feel super locked in either—kind of loose feeling, not always positively.

on one hand, i didn’t love it. on the other hand, ackles’ storytelling and lush Broadway arrangements were mesmerizing and the album flew past.

kinda funny, short and sweet

all great, doesn’t have the no skip star power of the later records.
