1001 Albums Summary

This is a jarring album when compared to later releases by Pink Floyd. I went into it thinking I would get a less refined version of the progressive psychedelia that they're famous for. Instead, this is a raw psychedelic experience. But despite that surprise, or perhaps because of that, this has come away as one of my top 3 Pink Floyd albums.

Great album. 4 stars for "Tale of Brave Ulysses" alone, the raw, proto-"White Room"

I really wanted to like this album more. Nile Rodgers is a great featured artist, and a great producer. But this album is just good, not great. "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" are obvious singles, but otherwise the whole thing feels a little flat. Something to put on in the background and let the groove flow.

An enjoyable late '80s hip hop album, but not something I'd see myself going back to.
