1001 Albums Summary

I acknowledge that they brought some innovation in including different influences into white rock music at the time, and that Manzarek is an interesting musician, but for me this is the Catcher in the Rye of albums. Pot-smoking teenagers love it; as a thinking adult you ultimately can't get past the embarrassing self-declared art god stance of the main character. May be extra biased by having read a lot of Morrison's poetry when I was a teenager; as an artifact of beat-esque counterculture, fine, but it doesn't get much beyond whoa drugs man-style indulgence. with this band for me.

You can tell that this is a great live band by this album. Whispering Pines is lovely. I like that the prettiness is kind of tempered with the organ's voicings. Makes me wanna drink lemonade on a porch.

Nope, not listening to another Doors album.

I love this album. It’s greasy dirty and so fun.

Hate Brown Sugar but love Moonlight Mile so.

Not my thing. Too much tango, it just is a limited-applications/amounts listen for me.

I love this album. Almost every song is crucial. His voice is really amazing.

One of his best. Exuberant, wild, fun.

There was a time I would have liked this more. But only hearing it for the first time in retrospect, it's the kind of white boy indie pop stuff that isn't very interesting anymore and didn't do it as well as others (Elliott Smith, Beulah) in the first place.

It's still sexy and fun and great party background music. I don't think I'd put it on to LISTEN to per se, but it's wonderfully done for what it is.

Bewitching, magical. There was really nothing like this and this is the definitive of this sound.
