There are a few great songs on this album including Tom Sawyer and Limelight. The rest are very good musically but unremarkable. Listening again, I am reminded how incredible the drums are, and how creative the overall band is.
Such an amazing album. Horses and Land are epic journeys, but Kimberly is my favorite. Each song is inventive and daring in their own way.
Creative and strangely moving at times. The sound they created became so familiar in later years, creating the background for the slow alternative singer songwriter rock of the 2000’s. Some songs work better than others, though. While the first two full songs are special and unique, the third is unremarkable and sounds like soundtrack music.
I’ve tried with Alice and Chains several times over the decades and just can’t get into it. It’s aggressively depressing in a self loathing way. The sound is strong and the message is clear, so I’ll give it three stars despite my lack of personal interest.
Exodus is filled with classic songs with a chill feel and profound meaning. I can’t listen to it all the time, but there’s nothing better when I’m in the right mood.
I think this is my third favorite Neil Young album, after Harvest and Rust Never Sleeps. As with many of his albums, After the Gold Rush sits between musical styles, with folk songs like After the Gold Rush and rough rockers like Southern Man.
It’s beautiful, complex, and chill. There is a sadness and feeling of tiredness and loss which permeates, making it even harder to separate this album from the end of Bowie’s life. I love so much of Bowie’s work, and this stands as his final great achievement.
Not my typical type of music, but it has a cool vibe. I liked it a lot more than I expected
Really not my typical type of music, but their version of Comfortably Numb was pretty great.
Definitely not my kind of music. It’s overproduced and doesn’t feel genuine.
Well, this album came out when I was 16 which means I was 11 when she performed Like a Virgin at the Grammy’s. While she was provocative and daring, my teenage mind didn’t think she had much else to offer until Like a Prayer came out. She pushed new boundaries in interesting ways. It’s not my style of music, and I don’t care for the rest of the album, but that song was transformative.
This album is packed with great songs carrying an urgency separate from the lyrics. You can feel the urgency through Like a Rolling Stone with the organ propelling the lyrics, and the electric guitar carries Dylan in a new direction.
