There is a couple songs that I enjoy, and I wouldn’t say there are many songs that are straight trash. Maybe 2 songs if anything. This album is extremely inventive and experimental, but maybe too much so? I would say the album is trash, but I wouldn’t revisit it or go back to it.
This album is a incredible piece of work. Through just a piano, a drum set, and a saxophone it tells a deep story about Coltrane and his relationship with god. This would definitely be a 4.5 if I could rate it as such, but sadly it has to settle for a 4.
This album was really good. There are a handful of songs I really enjoy but at the same time there are some others I found annoying or didn’t enjoy. It is getting a 3, but a very strong 3/5.
While this was a good album, I felt it dragged out for a little too long. The album had a good amount of songs I really enjoyed, but there are some I would skip. It greats a medium to high 3.
This is one of the best albums I’ve listened to. It clearly has had a great impact in rap today. My favorite track has to be the sixth sense. I mostly listened to this with earbuds in the car. It gets a medium to high 4
While I enjoyed my time listening to this record, I didn’t like it as much compared to other jazz records of the time. Despite being only 4 songs, it feels a little bloated at points, especially when compared to other 4 track albums like a love supreme. All in all, I would give it a medium 3.
This album is extremely inventive for its time, it takes the genre of jazz that was dying out and fuses it with the more upcoming electronic style to make for a great album. Low 4.
At points, I love it, at other points I am shocked by the pervertedness and inappropriateness of it. While I know Eminem’s real views today, points of this album still make me uncomfortable with its use of homophobia and misogyny. Part of me wonders if this is just the chapter Em is trying to play, and he was going for the shock factor. If so, he succeeded. Though, From a purely musical standpoint, I think this is a great album. Low 4.
I ain’t got a clue what this guy is saying but the vibes and sound are immaculate. Strong 3
Not just Kendrick Lamar’s greatest album, not just the greatest hip hop album, but one of the greatest albums ever put out. TPAB is a masterful album that I could never get tired listening to. It has the masterful storytelling and lyricism that Kendrick is known for combined with jazz infused beats and it make for something wonderful. My personal favorite album of all time.
While I did enjoy this album, I don’t think I would revisit it. It has had an obvious influence on hip hop and there are a lot of high points and low points on the record. All in all, low 3.
I do not believe that you can take this album as a single album. At its core, it is two different albums made by two great artists smashed together to be sold under the OutKast name.
I will start with speakerboxx, which I felt was the more upbeat and regular hip hop album that is very fun to just vibe to. In comparison, The Love Below was a jazzier and more insightful album with a connected story. On both records, there were tracks that I really enjoy and may come back to, but there were also others I would completely skip over and would not want to come back and listen to. With each record being 20 tracks long, and the whole album being 40 tracks long, there were a lot of points of this album that felt bloated due to the amount of music that is in here. Low 4.
Another Kendrick Lamar masterpiece. While I don’t believe this record is as good as TPAB, it is very close. GKMC is an album with masterful storytelling and a lot of replayability.
An incredibly impactful album in the world of hip hop, The Blueprint takes the incredible lyricism of Jay-Z and puts it together with incredible production. This record never drags, it doesn’t leave you bored or wanting to turn it off at any point. Amazing album 5/5
I really enjoyed bits of this album, other points I could go without. The jazz infused beats, for example Latifahs Law, are the highlights of the record for me personally. While I did really enjoy this album, I also would say it ain’t all too memorable for me. I would only give it a 3, but a high 3.
Weird and wacky is the best way to describe this album, but that is not a bad thing. Low 4/5
This was a great album and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. The jazzier beats and uncommon instruments such as a flute on the song “if you only knew” are the highlights for me. Favorite track: Thin Line
A fun listen with an amazing vocal performance makes this album great in my eyes. It’s roughness around the edges and odd writing choices and messages though keep it from being a higher score. All in all, high 3.
