Excellent record, really brought to life by the nature of it being a live recording. The extended version is probably a touch too long, but the original track listing is a tight selection that really does place you in a 1950s jazz club.
A record that clearly holds promise, but too many songs sound alike and run into each other. Sunrise and Elegia are superb (probably because they sound more like Cure and Joy Division tracks, respectively), but the rest of the record does little to distinguish itself, while trending just above average.
I'd happily listen to this again in the background, but am unlikely to put it on through choice.
A mid to high 3.
A solid, but hardly groundbreaking, record. It's a good enough listen, and snappy enough to not overstay it's welcome, but I certainly don't agree with it's status as 'one of the greatest rock and roll albums ever'. Pretty basic meat and potatoes rock & roll.
21st Century Schizoid Man and The Court of the Crimson King are superb, but they bookend much weaker tracks. Moonchild, notably, drastically overstays its welcome and really makes the record drag.
Removing Moonchild would make this a mid-to-high 4, but the record, as presented, instead ranks as a high 3/low 4.
Bombastic, brazen and really quite brilliant. Just a truly enjoyable listen with some superb musicianship.
It's undeniably not high art - or even anything close, really - but for 46 minutes of pure fun, not many records are likely to beat Bat Out of Hell.
A low to mid 4 for this.
Really liked this, although some tracks definitely run for too long. It seems better to put on in the background than making a concerted effort to listen to it, but there are no doubts I will play this record again in the future.
A low to mid 4.
Pretty standard alternative rock fare, really. It’s good enough to listen to, but nothing really separates it from the hundreds of other similar alt-rock albums released throughout history.
A low to mid 3.
A pretty solid record, although plagued by a number of tracks sounding very much alike.
I wasn't expecting the reggae/dub influence given the labelling as punk, and it resulted in the record coming across much lighter than I was expecting.
A pretty mid 3 for me.
A really good listen, although probably 3 or 4 songs too long. There's some of the classic Fleetwood Mac intertwined with the more experimental pieces, and it does work together as a whole package.
I'd definitely put this on again.
A low to mid 4 for me.
So dull, and so very long. There is clearly good musicianship on the record, but it's remarkably self-indulgent, and any sort of atmosphere really does not come across.
The recording itself doesn't sound particularly good either, with a very muddled mix doing little to make this a good listening experience.
A low 2 for me.
This was a pretty good listen, without being overly outstanding. I definitely feel the second half was stronger than the opening.
I'm unlikely to rush out to put this on again, but would certainly not mind it being put in my rotation.
A mid to high 3.
Really quite liked this, and would say there is not a bad track on the record. However, there is also little that is outstanding which keeps this from being a truly superb listen.
Certainly one that I will put on again, however.
A high 3/low 4 for me.
This was much more listenable than expected given the description included discussion of 'experimental' composition ahead of listening. The experimentation is fairly tastefully done, and doesn't seem to be for the sake of being different - it works with the music to create a better product overall.
Something very 66'-68' Beatles about it.
High 3/low 4
This was pretty enjoyable and will certainly enter my rotation. It's undeniably not outstanding by any means, but has enough strengths to make it a good listen.
A high 3/low 4
This is one of the most middle of the road, blandest records I have ever heard. It is certainly not bad by any means, it is just boring.
Every song sounds the same, and it really drags on with a far too long running time.
A low 2 for me
Still a remarkably brilliant record, and one that is incredibly consistent.
I’d say that there is not a bad track on the record, and even the weaker ones are clearly very good.
It’s not a masterpiece, but banger after banger makes this a superb listen.
A low 5 for me
This was an excellent listen, despite including few of the Talking Heads tracks most people would be aware of.
The production is great, some of the guitar sounds are superb, and the record flows really well.
I expected this to be good, but not as good as it actually was.
I'm thinking a low 5
As a not particularly massive Nirvana fan, I don't think this record really works. Without having the reference points to the original versions of these tracks, the stripped down versions just don't really work.
It was a fine listen, I suppose, but given the hype around this record I have to say I was disappointed.
