Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Oct 21 2023

There’s a certain irony about the album being recorded a lot in a Church and the main singer having several sexual misconduct allegations, but I’m better than that. Anyway, I am willing to brush the sexual misconduct under the rug and resume business though, something I bet never once uttered by a Pope before. Can’t say I have heard of Arcade Fire before today, sorry folks. I did however enjoy my introduction to them. I initially settled for a 3.5 on this one, but feel rounding up to a 4 is a more fitting score than a 3 - despite a hint of pretentiousness in some of the songs. The production on a good few of the songs is intriguing, and I reckon with a few more listens a couple of the songs will continue to grow on me. The usage of the organ/back up singers elevated this album for me. ‘My Body is a Cage’ is a nice conclusion to this tracklist. Overall, decent! I am now familiar with Arcade Fire, and look forward to hearing more of them. Songs added to playlist: (1) The Well and the Lighthouse (2) No Cars Go

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Oct 22 2023

I think on this one Hendrix is a victim of his own quality. I went into this expecting a lot, and although I wasn’t let down, I did want more. There’s no doubt this is a display of extreme musical talent, by one of the most talented musicians of the 20th century. But in terms of listenability? Meh, could have more to it. Don’t get me wrong, it had a lot of enjoyable tracks, but overall it felt disconnected in parts and meandered along occasionally - especially with the lengthy jamming segments. I’m not sure I can justify a 5 for this one, and feel like my 4.5 score would be more suitably rounded down to a 4. Nevertheless, a good blend of electric blues and psychedelic styles, with really strong tunes like Crosstown Traffic and All Along the Watchtower. Maybe not his finest work for me, but I wouldn’t argue too long with all the folks giving this 5/5, it is undoubtedly still fun. Songs added to playlist: (1) Crosstown Traffic (2) All Along the Watchtower

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Oct 23 2023

It’s not necessarily something I would have chosen to put on, but I will definitely be returning to this one. A beautiful, short and gentle album by a more than troubled individual. The simplicity is something to be appreciated - just the listener, and Drake. Offers real insight about a man who had no interest in the fame or promoting himself, and for that alone a pleasure to listen to. It’s a great shame he never witnessed what success he had posthumously. Songs added to playlist: - Know

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Oct 24 2023

I don’t like to skip songs in this, but blimey, a few I had to. One or two good tunes here which achieved a lot of mainstream success, however the majority is experimental and slightly boring. Not terrible, but probably would avoid in the future. I think this one just isn’t up my street. Songs added to playlist: - Running Up That Hill

Frank by Amy Winehouse

If Jez from peep show knuckled down I reckon this is the album he would produce. Make of that what you will. It’s alright, maybe a 1.5 but I wouldn't round it up to a 2. Nothing special to me especially since I never even experienced the 90s!

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Oct 28 2023

I must be missing the memo here. So boring and forgettable

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Oct 29 2023

Gentle, sweet, fun and relaxing. Enjoyable!
