5/10.
I listened to this album while applying for some jobs early morning on 10/21/2023. It was perfect for doing this task since it really did not grab my attention at all. It does not hold up in my humble opinion. It's not terrible; there's a couple songs that I liked, but it feels very of its time. Will not bother relisting to the album as a whole, but liked a couple songs.
I would probably go with 4.5 here if possible thanks to Blue Condition and Take It Back. Otherwise, this album is perfect to me. I haven't really thought about it, but Jack Bruce probably has one of my favorite voices in rock if not in all music. I also love the softness and roundness of Ginger Baker's drumming and the humor in a bunch of these songs.
I really like what I heard from this album. Enough to give it a couple of spins. Some of the songs make me think of Lorde, especially Green Light, and some Cindy Lauper. I'm happy I gave this one a chance.
This is one of those albums that there are some high highs for me (Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground, Fell In Love With a Girl, We're Going to Be Friends, Offend in Every Way, I Think I Smell a Rat, and Aluminum), but a lot of songs I just skip. The aesthetic of the White Stripes doesn't really strike a chord with me (boom); I tend to be more of a maximalist when it comes to music.
I don't give this album enough spins: my Radiohead go-tos are In Rainbows and OK Computer. There might be a little too much variety here for consistent listens (some epic bangers, but also a little too much ambient music at the same time).
This one of those albums that has some songs I like (Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand, and Bold as Love), but some doot songs that don't make it an album I would listen to as a whole. I know this is sacrilege, but I like John Mayer Trio's cover of Wait Until Tomorrow more than Jimi's version. Also, the production of this album is subpar compared to others of the area (read: Cream).
My mind was a little scattered while listening, and I couldn't get through the whole thing. My fault, not the album's. I did enjoy the first half or so a good amount. The flute adds a nice bit of fantastical whimsy. Will try to listen again soon ... maybe.
I didn't get all of the way through because of me, not the album. I enjoyed what I listened to a lot more than expected. I'm also glad to have experience some media from her since I remember the name coming up multiple times from my parents as a kid and having no frame of reference of who she was.
I need to listen and digest some more, but I enjoyed what I heard, especially the first three tracks.
