1001 Albums Summary

A positive opener for my first day of 1001 albums! Obviously I've heard "Psycho Killer" before, but don't recall having heard any of the other tracks on this album. Not sure if I got the original album experience as I was linked to the Spotify remaster with acoustic covers scattered amongst the studio tracks. I was feeling a little under the weather the night I listened to this so I needed something buoyant and energetic to listen to. Rating a solid 4.

Favourite track... Minor Chant Can't say the organ stood out to me more than any other instruments, sax player was killing it and all the band are talented. Looking forward to listening to this on a cold winter night with a glass of wine whilst I cook something fancy and shimmy round the kitchen.

3. Laying some respect on the impact this album must have had at the time, but I did struggle to stay focused on it. My main criticism is just the lack of diversity in the album; in the beats, production, lyrical structure and rhyming. Everything just feels very similar from track to track. Love the wide and unapologetic use of sampling though - one of the things I enjoyed most listening was trying to work out where I recognised them from. And there are definitely a couple of bangers sprinkled in there.

Never listened to this album end to end before, but felt like I had already such was and is the frequency with which they seem to get air time. Not really my bag. Over produced to hide a poor vocal performance, and the songwriting seems to become progressively more low-effort stadium rock towards the end. Stinks of trying to wrap up an album because you've already written the money-makers. Generous 2.

No time to review properly, just want the next album. Goes without saying; a classic.
