Acoustic version of this album is my favorite. Best songs: You Oughta Know (original version is the best because it sounds the most like an angry, spun up, jaded ex exploding into a soapbox rant—we’ve all been there and hating on your ex and being angry that they are happy and over you is not a fun thought so hence this rage song). Favorite first listen: Mary Jane. Reminds me of Sarah ar Eagle Outllok today. wondering if she is feeling any of this. i wish i could send this but i think it might be censored because of the title. But if you put the name Sarah in place of MJ, that is what I imagine she has experienced these last few months.
The only one I knew was Smoke on the Water. This whole album reminds me of my early childhood, but more of what it feels like to look at a blurry photograph and to be at the rides at the carnival. And the basement of the Blake’s where their teenage sons introduced me to Kiss. I was what, 5? The potter scared me a little. The had the painting of dogs playing cards around a table, too. I did like that.
This album is hella long. It’s not really my style, but I can appreciate some of the songs and their sounds. I like Church. Of course, Hey Ya, is a classic. Makes me think of my whole first family and the neighbor kid Riley in Dothan riding away from a movie and all of us singing and dancing to the song in the van. :).
I only recognized one song—Born to Run—but the message, the voice, the whole album was a familiar mix of the Ohio Valley of my tweens, firefighters, police, bars, pizza joints, Italian and street festivals, the men who worked at Tidd Plant, and Fourth of July at the Marshall County Fair.
So, this is the happiest moving blues. :). I don’t recognize any of the songs on this album, but I definitely recognize the voice and sound. He certainly works the crowd up. Contagious. I do know his other releases…The Thrill Is Gone, My Lucille, Let the Good Times Roll. He definitely has a cult following. I prefer his younger jazz. . Boogie Woogie Woman.
I should recognize some of these pieces because I was 5, but I don’t. I only recognize the sound of their voices for songs produced in the 80’s. I had no idea Talking Heads was around before I heard them on the radio. “Don’t Worry About the Government” makes me think I could write a random song. It has the feel of a fun, thoughtless, babble that you might sing around the house, putting the words of what you are currently and actively doing into a tune that will be forgotten. A piggyback song of sorts. But it made it into this album.
Sounds like a 90’s voice with an 80’s track. I don’t HATE it. I was surprised Jason knew who he was. I liked his live sound better than the studio tracks. Apparently Vauxhall is a British car company like Chevy or Ford here. I looked up one from 1994 and it reminded me of a Beretta or Sebring from that era. They were advertised a lot here in the states at that time. I remember seeing newspaper ads about them and some of my college friends had them. I kinda bet Vauxhall was the British version of the same market. He looks like Brian Austin Greene. Might be worth looking into some of his other albums to see how his music started and how it progressed. Apparently he is #2 rated as Britain’s most famous artist. I’m not sure I believe that, but that’s only because I’ve read maybe 30 sentences ever about him. I think it’s worth poking around to see what all of the “bloody” fuss is about.
I thought I would not like this album, but I actually am a bit of a metalist, as it were. It is shocking that any and in fact ALL members of the band are still alive and functioning at any level. I enjoyed reading about the band and Ozzy is portrayed in the film The Dirt snorting a line of ants by the pool on a whim. I cannot believe how mean they were to the drummer and almost killed him by spraying him gold. Their names, too. All very unique until you get to the bullied drummer. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony no cap lommi, Geezer Butler and ….Bill Ward. Changes and Laguna Sunrise are my 2 picks for new favorites.
I feel like I’m watching an episode of Headbanger’s Ball the last 2 days. Axel Rose has aged along with me. :). Strange to think he is just a bit older than me. He seemed so much older when I was in late HS and early college. TD said Sweet Child of Mine was the song to which he used to think of me.
Amazing! Loved this album. The voice lead sounds a lot like the lead from The Counting Crows. Knew several songs but didn’t know to whom I was listening. Listening for the 3rd time right now. I had my doubts when I saw the cover art. I was expecting an entirely different sound. This one I will listen to over and over again.
I favorited every song. I just love Louie Prima so much. Reminds me of me playing Potter Barn for Kids CDs in the car and in the house for the kids. Banana Split for My Baby.
I feel like this music reflects a dream like quality that can be background music for life or a movie featuring yourself. Not offensive. Rather enjoyed it but would not seek it out to listen to again.
Sledgehammer reminds me of early MTV and getting to watch it on my grandmother’s cable tv if she didn’t catch me. lol. I saw this weird video in my early teens. Not a big fan of his sound in general, but Your Eyes has a special place in my heart from the boombox scene in the movie Say Anything.
Nope.
Too tech funk 80’s. Hard pass.
It feels like a Brat Pack movie, because it is.
