Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Dec 07 2023

I never really *got* the Beach Boys, but catchy, and a bit dissonant. Even though it sounds happy, there's a lot of heaviness underneath. Feels like living in LA. I heard it referred to as "church" pop. And I read arguments that it's a concept album, which I think I agree with.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Dec 08 2023

7-11, Jell-O, Steve McQueen I think I just missed the boat on this. It sounds immature and one-note, there isn't a lot of variability, they hit one rhythm, one sound, and then never let up. Like that joke where a man thinks he's found an erogenous zone, so he just rubs the same spot awkwardly and consistently. Sabotage is hands down the best song, but Madness just sucks or whatever it was made us laugh.

Back In Black by AC/DC
Dec 09 2023

A little same-y, but great for the morning and a drive.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
