1001 Albums Summary

Kicks off with a nice full sound. Psychadelic rock; Beatles meets Pink Floyd?

Powerful. The tune "You Make Me Feel" still sounds like a commercial but I could hear the soul coming through the rest of the album.

Harmonies sound like Grateful Dead, American Beauty. Great talent but not my taste.

Ok, not really my style, but can understand the important influence for roots / jam bands.

Some of this is really beautiful, but I could not finish the 10 minute long falsetto track at the beginning. It was really bad and I can only assume that this album is famous for some of the other tracks? Okay, now it is a bunch of weird experimental sounds and noise. Not good.

I started out not liking this album--seemed like just another run-of-the-mill pop-inspired indie rock band. After giving it a chance, I grew to appreciate the variety and song writing, especially once I got to the acoustic version of "Hysteric" which showcased the songwriting talent and raw energy that doesn't need the synth to shine.

I have (almost) never liked the Beatles. I once went through a brief Sgt. Pepper phase as a teenager. But tunes like this mystify me. I know it is heresy, but I just don't see the appeal of the Beatles. It is Koolaid--something you only drink as a kid and only if you have bad parents. I know millions of people love it, I know what it sounds like, but I can find no more appeal in it than listening to a Backstreet Boys or Insync. This is nothing but lady-pandering teeny bop before there were synthesizers. Move along grownups, nothing to see here.

I listened to the track "Sultans of Swing" on repeat for a brief period of my life, but for some reason I had not dipped deeper into this album. I'm glad I came back to enjoy the rest of this excellent record. And it was enjoyable, from start to finish.

Interesting musical combo, they have some soul. Probably wouldn’t go back to it much but worth the listen. At their best they channel The Cure.

Amazing full sound, a few tracks that were powerful and moving. Heaven is a Zillion Miles Away was my favorite.

I turned it off in about 10 seconds.

Great production quality and impressive vocals. Song writing topics leave me cold but probably I'm the wrong audience for 25 year old love songs.
