Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Jan 08 2024

Probably like a lot of millennials (whether they realize it or not) I was familiar with this from MIA's sample of "Where Is My Mind" on "20 Dollar" from Kala. When you listen to this, you really can hear so many later albums that it influenced...but it's not quite for me. I love the energy, love the general alt-rock sound, but I just need a bit more melody.

Jan 09 2024

It's fun and energetic and it has a warm nostalgic glow for me. Some tracks maybe overstay their welcome a bit, but overall I love it.

Jan 10 2024

Bob Dylan has always been an artist that I've wanted to like more than I actually do. I wasn't familiar with this particular album, but after listening I feel the same way. I think a big issue is how obtuse his lyrics are. Maybe if I had some connection to 1965 it would hit for me, but since I don't I just kind of generally don't know what the hell he's talking about most of the time. A harmonica can only take you so far.

All Directions by The Temptations
Jan 11 2024

Like moving room to room at a really edgy 70s house party.

Bad by Michael Jackson
Jan 15 2024

The production sounds dated by today's standards, but it's truly outrageously catchy. Pop just doesn't really get better than this?

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Jan 16 2024

Rap is not my genre, but I can appreciate that this is really good.

Ace of Spades by Motörhead
Jan 17 2024

Big Tony Hawk energy. It's a good workout album.

The Visitors by ABBA
Jan 18 2024

This was more complex than I was expecting and it had some tracks that I did enjoy. However, it overstayed it's welcome and I really didn't enjoy the back half as much as the front.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Jan 22 2024

It's not my favorite David Bowie, but it's still got some bangers. I'm glad that this detour into "blue-eyed soul" is in his discography in any event.

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Jan 24 2024

Solid classic rock. Would sound good on a dive bar jukebox anywhere in the world.

Suede by Suede
Jan 25 2024

Yeah, it was fine. Not something I will particularly remember, but not bad.

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Jan 26 2024

It sounds old, and I mean that in a good way. Like Gillian Welch just came down from the Appalachian mountains and laid down an album.

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Feb 01 2024

Fine for what it is, I just don't imagine I will return to it.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Feb 06 2024

It's interesting, it really is. And there are some tracks that I like. But, it's a bit too...I don't know...floaty(?) for me. I wish it had more of a rock edge. Solid 2.5
