Thorns:
I'm not a huge fan of the way Bob Dylan sings. There are some singers where they no doubt have an amazing voice even if perhaps you don't like the song. In general I don't think Dylan is a great singer, when listening to the album at times it didn't bother me while other times it did.
Often times the best part of folk songs are the lyrics but for me it's hard to focus on the lyrics if the melody is overly repetitive and doesn't hook me. Many of the songs on the album were too long and repetitive that my mind wandered off and I wasn't listening to what he was saying.
Roses:
There were catchy moments and none of the songs were bad to listen to, at worst they were repetitive or unmemorable.
Standout songs: Tangled Up in Blue, Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts
It started off well....but I was not a fan of the last few experimentally, new age-y instrumental tracks. First half of the album, even though the instrumental tracks were a bit repetitive I liked the sound Bowie created and the instrumentation he chose. But he lost me by the end so the album didn't end on a good note for me. First half 3.5 stars, second half 1.5 stars, total 2.5 stars but can't give half stars so 2.
Solid album with lots of great (and familiar) songs. Found out most songs are not original to Springfield (as was a common practice in the 50s and 60s) so in a way it's a cover album. Nevertheless Springfield has a great voice and the songs were well chosen. Standout tracks: Mama Said, You Don't Own Me.
Liked the vibe and instrumentation although repetitive at times but wasn't a fan of the singing mumbling voice as I couldn't even understand the words sometimes.
Has the classic 90s grunge rock sound that is enjoyable but pretty unmemorable. Not bad but not great.
Really groovy and great rap flow. Unlike some other albums I appreciate the emphasis on lyrics. Wish they would have switched up the beat and rhythm more often as it felt like every song had the same drum pattern.
Late 90s grunge rock, some songs were better than others. But there were times I wanted to rate this lower because of the wailing vocals.
I appreciate that she was trying to do something different. It just wasn't for me.
Some songs stood out more than others (Song 2, On Your Own) but overall the album was fine. Not sure if I'd re-listen to it.
Solid album although some songs were super short. Not a fan of Neil Young's very nasally singing voice, which is more apparent in some songs over others. Standout tracks: Southern Man, Only Love Can Break Your Heart.
Some great songs, I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could.
Good album, loved the incorporation of orchestra instruments, reminded me of pop music from the 1950s. Sometimes Costello's voice felt too "lazy" and didn't fit the vibe of the song but otherwise it was an enjoyable album. Standout tracks: Man Out of Time, ...And In Every Home.
Very vibey. But some times it was too vibey, didn't think some songs merited going on and on for over 6 minutes. Not my taste.
Good album with some great songs and some songs that are forgettable. Standout tracks: Supermodel, Love Galore, The Weekend, Prom, 20 Something
Good album with some standout songs but by the end quite repetitive.
Good album, some great songs (Every breath you take) and some not great songs (Mother). Loved their sound and vibe.
There's something about it that irked me, I think it was the style of singing. Not something I'd listen to again.
