Arrival
ABBA
This album is interesting for sure. I definitely don't think this is one I would've listened to beginning to end on my own. I can't say I'm the BIGGEST ABBA fan, but their music is so soothing and easy to listen to. There is no denying the insane harmonies they're capable of.
I am definitely intrigued by the songs that could never fly today, such as the opener "When I Kissed the Teacher."
Also, I don't believe I have ever heard an ABBA song with the male singers as the lead, and that was a fun little surprise.

Janis Joplin
Definitely enjoyed this more than the first 2 days. (Judas Priest and Abba)
Janis is 100% more my speed, plus she sings about things I can sympathize much more with. Even in 2024, you can still feel that emotion in her voice. There's a reason she's an icon, and this album is a prime example of that.

Really really enjoyed this one. There's something so comforting about this album. Maybe it's that my Mom was such a fan of Motown/Soul when I was growing up. It definitely made me dance and feel a good vibe throughout.

Deep Purple
Much like the others, probably not something I would've listened to on my own... before this, I'm not sure I knew them outside of Smoke on the Water, but doesn't everyone know that song? I think the best part of this experience is hearing artists I really enjoy's influences. There were so many parts of this album that I felt were direct influences on Lenny Kravitz. This is definitely an album to get stoned to and just relax.

Simply Red
I was looking forward to this one the second I saw it. I've never deep dove into Simply Red's catalogue, but "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and "Holding Back the Years" are two of my all-time favorites. Two things kinda surprised me about this one... First: How much I DIDN'T love the songs that weren't HBTY. Second: So much saxophone, and that's not a complaint. Beautiful beautiful saxophone, but all in all, I don't see myself revisiting this one a lot.

I feel like such a broken record, but this is yet another one that I enjoyed enough, but can't see myself returning to often. They're obviously talented and make incredible music, it's just not MY thing. I was incredibly amazed at how they were able to combine the folksy/bluegrass sound with the very 80s, almost synth vibe.
For current listeners of red dirt or more modern bluegrass music, I think this one could become a new old favorite, but not for me.

This is one of my more favorite albums I've listened to in this project. I honestly can't imagine playing this album for anyone and them hating it. It somehow manages to appeal to all ages and genres, or at least that's how it seems to me.
I do have to admit though, I keep getting Stranger Things flashbacks. I think the late 80s synth is really amping up those visuals for me.

This one's just not for me. I do have to say though, a lot of songs sounded familiar. Not like I've heard them before, but like they were sampled in other songs a lot, but I couldn't find any confirmation on that.

LOVED this one! How can you go wrong with Marvin Gaye? That voice, those lyrics. The power in his words. This is the kind of album that makes me grateful I'm doing this "challenge."

I really enjoyed this one a lot too. My favorite part of this is seeing all the newer artists I like that were so heavily influenced by these artists. I heard so much of Jet in here, and I love that Jet was obviously so heavily influenced by The Strokes.

Kid Rock
I can't lie, I don't want my current opinion of Kid Rock to cloud the love I had for this album when it was first released. Regardless of the person Kid Rock has become, he obviously had incredible talent, at some point, and it's sad to me that he's steered so far away from those early albums.

The Go-Go's
I enjoyed this one a lot, although I am partial to The Go-Go's and Belinda Carlisle's voice. I would say my only real complaint is that I wish there was a few good power ballads, because Belinda's voice is so amazing and she needs a chance to show it off.
This made me want to dance in my chair at my desk though!

This is one that I already knew through and through, but I'll never complain about listening to it again. I miss this Adele. The raw emotion in this album. It still takes me back to a place and time that I've long moved on from. Regardless of what happens in the future, this album will always have its place as one of the greatest of all time.

Taylor Swift
It's mediocre pop music written by an adult teenager for teenagers and other middle-aged teenagers who never grew up past high school boys and crushes.
I will NEVER understand why people think she's such a genius lyricist... Bob Dylan is an incredible lyricist, Taylor is just a product and nothing further. She's doing more planet to the damage than probably all of us on this site combined, but her "stans" don't care. They'll continue harassing Joe Alwyn while defending her dating a racist, bigot.

Where do I even start? From the time I first watched "She's Having a Baby" and heard This Woman's Work, I was captivated by her voice and her music. SO SO thankful this came in after Taylor Swift, because it was a much needed refresher.
