Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees

Siouxsie has a good vocal but it's the same exact pitch and flow on every song. The same can be said about the basic formatting of each song. Siouxsie gets a loud clashing cymbal laden post-rock mess in the background wherein she continually repeats the title of the song. There are certainly some interesting parts like the usage of a harmonica in a brit-rock band and the exceptionally timed pause before the chorus on Night Shift. Overall I think the album holds up to be run of the mill brit-postpunk. The history and timing of the album release does show as they did bring about new concepts for what songs should be like, but unfortunately I am a listener past her time who already heard a million songs like it so it just doesn't stand out.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Feb 21 2024

Exceptional vocals that haunt and inspire alongside a consistently developed bass that resonates the message of nostalgia and longing.

Abraxas by Santana
Feb 22 2024

Groovy and Funky all at the same time. A wonderful concoction of passionate singing and a band that understands rhythm.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Feb 23 2024

Exceptional sound and beautiful lyrics. I can absolutely see how people love these kinds of songs and bands but personally my taste was never aligned with the late 80's, early 90's sound. This doesn't take away from it being a great album probably worthy of 4 or 5 stars, just not my personal favorite.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Feb 24 2024

Dark and stormy. It's the foundation for heavy metal to follow. A four will do as I am a bit more of a psychedelia rock fan but to most people this will easily be a 5 star album.

Roxy Music by Roxy Music
Feb 26 2024

A complete reversal from yesterday's album, this is experimental brit-rock/pop at it's absolute finest. Variety between tracks, beautifully sung vocals with a good range of pitches, and a consistently amazing drummer that holds tempo as if he was a metronome. This is an album of it's time that stands out due to the willingness of the band to take some risks and develop songs people otherwise were not thinking of. Some may be 80's pop, some may be hard Zeppelin style rock, and even what I may consider to be a nod to the Doors with psychedelic pieces that drag on in a good and developed way. Finally, no album with an exceptional sax solo cannot be rated less than 3 stars. This album comes together to provide a unique listening experience that puts you right back into the time where nobody knew what to do with an electric guitar and everyone wanted to find out.

Illmatic by Nas
Feb 27 2024

Absolutely fantastic lyricism and the beats were really well put together. This certainly feels like a debut album at it's finest. We see Nas putting the pieces together for a good career and from the moment the album starts we know NYC is as much a character as Nas himself is. I am not a huge listener of rap but out of the small amount I do know this is one of the best.

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Feb 28 2024

Never been a fan of British rap. I can see how some may like it but personally it’s not in line with what I like. It’s probably worth more than one star but it’s my review and I get to choose the rating!

The Bends by Radiohead
Feb 29 2024

It’s Radiohead. I normally do my best to do an in-depth review but I can’t see the screen through my tears so I guess this’ll do.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Mar 02 2024

I like Elton John. I do. I’ll never forget quitting my job after a huge hour long argument with my boss and cresting a hill on my way home to see the sunset while “Don’t let the sun go down on me” played. But, every artist has the album that went the other way. Madman was a good album but compared to the sheer power of Elton Johns greats, it just doesn’t shine. Tiny dancer is good but the remainder feels like filler. Additionally, for a man with such an amazing vocal range, the lyrics do not set him up to perform like he always does, feeling more like an afterthought to the instruments. Crowded, messy, and confusing, this album is a must listen due to the prestige of the artist but unfortunately this is Elton John at his worst.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Mar 06 2024

A delightful album that fully requires it to be listened to in full, in order. Everyone and their mother has heard Son of a Preacher Man but it’s only a taste of the slow and soulful vocals of Dusty. Paired with the Memphis Sound, her voice is elevated and punctual. Slow moving blues will always have a place in my library. Only real critique is that most of the pieces tend to blend together and do sound somewhat alike. I’d treat this album as one 38 minute song than 10 flowing tracks.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Mar 07 2024

This may be one of the greatest albums ever made. It won't pop up regularly. You may never listen to this again. But for 41 minutes and 34 seconds you will feel as if you are floating away from gravity. Nothing technical, nothing amazing for the guitar, nothing super impressive. Then, Leonard begins to speak. I wept like a child listening to Suzanne and for each song after it, it immediately brought me to a moment in my life. No album has ever made me transition thoughts between so much of my life before and it is unlikely any will after this. Leonard is doing poetry over a guitar. I dedicate this album to anyone who is over the age of 30, because you won't listen to this album and not get teary while thinking of old times long since past.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Mar 09 2024

Its the stones. The Rolling Stones. Slightly less impressive as their previous efforts but nonetheless a fantastic album.

Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park
Mar 18 2024

So I grew up on Hybrid Theory and Meteora. 5 Stars.

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
May 12 2024

Bob Dylan is just as powerful as he always is. I love his music and this album stands out but I always find country to be a niche for some nights which leads to a 4 star. Play it often but it won’t come up every day.
