AmarElo by Emicida

Not understanding a word doesn't help me get this. Rap/samba sounds pretty cool; I might not be the right audience to fully understand it. Love having it on in the background. It has some great grooves.

Sorry, no.

Totally digging this. Didn't recognize it. Laid back operatic? A low-key down-beat hour. Groooovy.

Kind of one note. It could be more interesting, as Doom Saloon and Our Lady of Electric Light show, but it was a real slog getting there. My 3 is more for potential than actual.

These long, subtle grooves can really grab me, pull me down, then slam me like I'm a punching bag. Atmospheric (what, as opposed to terrestrial?) then wallowing in noise, pulling out the stops and leaking all over.

Dreamboat Annie by Heart
Oct 07 2026

While this hits my flashback sensibility squarely in the chest, therein lies the problem listening to it now. Back then I felt it too pop oriented, by which I mean high schoolish.. My girlfriend at the time was named Anne (I called her Annie) and I was eager to like it, but the top 40 hits began to drive me nuts. The song Dreamboat Annie, on the other hand, is a gem, and highlights the sensibility I wish the rest of the album had. Soul of the Sea if it didn't have strings might be nice too, and some of the other songs. But they keep me wishing they had a good producer.

Ants From Up There by Black Country, New Road

Intriguing. Can't get enough of its inventiveness. A little too emo-ey at times, but when it isn't overly dramatic, the musicianship comes through. I am definitely not one of the over-the-top fans, but find it on the list of albums I need to come back to.

Rêver mieux by Daniel Bélanger

What will this be like? No recognition of album or art. Starting off well--evocative, laid-back, emotive. Verging on trippy. Gets a little a little Mel Torme loungey at times, but not too much so.
