Such a cool, weird rock album. It feels like it's influenced by so many things that it's hard to pinpoint where the sound comes from. Sometimes it's Van Halen, sometimes it's prog rock, sometimes its noise rock. Cool as fuck, though. I'm definitely coming back to this one 4/5

When I saw "French progressive rock band", I have to admit my expectations were pretty low. But this was great. Really heavy and very listenable. Sort of like if Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd had a baby. 4 stars, will listen again. Could become a playlist staple, time will tell.

Awesome, like a whole bunch of my favourite bands all jamming together - from Dark Star and King Gizzard ... to Pink Floyd and At The Drive-In. Possibly my new favourite band. Well worthy of a place in the book, and a band I am looking forward to exploring more fully

Brilliant album. Never heard the band before

It's like this was written for me. I hear Tthe Wall era Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Sleep in here and it comes together so well. I don't know if you need to hear it before you die, but it really worked for me.

If an album makes me look if the band is going on tour somewhere near me, in the nearby future, it sure must be good! I love this kind of heavier psychedelic rock

Yessss, this is what this list is all about. I had no idea this existed and it fucking rules!

Ummon was surprisingly a bit of me, it's hard, it's gritty, yeah it's sort of proggy in a way but in a way I can tolerate and then like the stuff around it. The first two tracks absolute slap, then it finds a bit of a groove and varies a bit, but songs like Altitude Lake show me that they can mix old school heavy metal principles with their spacey proggy stuff and have it come off well. The closing track randomly goes into screamo metal mode and I loved that :D . Hawkwind is a pretty good callout, the vocals are meh at best but I reckon I can throw this on headphones and get absolutely amped to it because it's heavy and dirty and has some cool solos, gets a 4 from me, a rare surprise find that I liked a lot.

Was going to give this a 3 but I will give it a 4, this rocks. I thought this was older than 2020, have been seeing this around for what feels like a while. Anyways, good pick

cool stoner prog rock album.

I wasn't sold on the bits with vocals, but the instrumental sections were very enjoyable. If this had been purely instrumental, a solid four; as it is, a high three.

Ummon is a space rock album by French band Slift. It sounds like they picked up after Hawkwind dropped their first one in 1970. Only the production sounds more up to date. I don't think it adds a lot to the genre and the songs are ok, nothing more.

Trending towards the oldest school definition of Metal, heavy rock, though less blues-inflectrd than its 70s progenitors. The lyrics and singing didn't do a ton for me. Overall I liked it though.

This felt like Gong infused Black Mountain with some high speed classic Floyd. But all mixed together in a very unique way. High wow-factor here! Kind of mind blowing and I'm on the verge of saying I love it - it's loud without being loud; I really enjoy the mix. A headphone album in every way - closed my eyes for the entire trip and it's the rare album that takes you somewhere. Only personal critique that is (for now) keeping this from a 5 for me is the growly vocals which also seem unnecessary. If this were instrumental it'd be a 10/10 so I'm holding out to see if they're something I get used to but for now I'll give it a strong 4 with a very good holy shit vibe. :) 8/10 4 stars IMO: Belonged in the book? Yes.

Osees, King Gizzard, even some doom metal thrown into the mix? This is some cool shit. Probably should have been like 10 minutes shorter, but over all a very cool time.

Prog rock that takes a while to find a good groove but then when it hits it it’s pretty sweet.

Ok it's not at all original and the vocals are a bit iffy but this music is right up my street. Really listenable.It amazes me that in 2020 people still produce music like this.

Major King Gizzard vibes here. And way too much sitting on that low E for the first half. But this is good.

Okay prog rock. It sounds very much like Shine On You Crazy Diamond at times. The album runs out of steam about 50 minutes in, like most prog rock, and just kind of ambles along. My personal rating: 3/5 My rating relative to the list: 3/5 Should this have been included on the original list? No.

Favorite Track: Ummon

A chugging, relentless LP with Oh Sees-reminiscent guitar. Enjoyed this listen, but felt there was too much of a good thing throughout – as a guitar player and obsessive, even I have to admit that 70 minutes of cosmically heavy solos and walls of sound gets old. This album feels like a personal 4 to me, but structurally and artistically I can’t go above a 3. Add some dynamic contrast and melodic variation in and this band would quickly get to a 5, want to check out their new release and see if those elements crop up.

Soild modern rock music, can argue against having this on the list.

Ugh, more prog? Well, at least this album is French, so I’m getting to mix things up a bit. I’m not entirely sure what to expect from this album, but looking at the track listing and seeing a pair of songs over ten minutes long is not inspiring hope in me. Granted, Hot Buttered Soul has an 18-minute song, and I think that album rules, so I guess anything is possible. Eh, this album was fine. The big, open sound worked in this album’s favor at times, but at other points, I found it to be quite the turn-off. I don’t dislike long songs on principal, but I swear some artists (present company included) make longer songs because they feel like they have to. And while the music might be enjoyable, it feels like there was minimal purpose to all of the noodling and jamming on these songs. I did like the spacey feel that this album had, especially on “It’s Coming…” The guitar playing was excellent, and that instrumental break at the end was really entertaining. The drumming was great too, and this was probably the best example of the band’s open sound being an asset. Despite this album falling in the middle of the road for me, it was nice to have on, and I appreciate how cohesive the overall sound was. The more I listen to it, the more I’m learning that I really don’t have much of a flare for modern prog rock.

I listened to this in the car and it took me a while to realise that there weren’t many songs with lyrics. It didn’t make me want to drive off the road but it also didn’t make me want to listen to more of this artist.

Slushy rock that went a little too long

Didn’t know what to expected. It start off and I was thinking it might be instrumental and I was sort of digging it. Then the singing started. Didn’t dig it as much. That mixed feeling carried throughout. Enjoyed the underlying music but was thrilled by the vocals.
