Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Apr 13 2024

The Getz horn solo is really breathy and pronounced… Lost interest a bit after 3 or 4 tracks

Rio by Duran Duran
Apr 15 2024

I really appreciate the pop sensibility in the arrangements of these songs, and the very prototypically 80’s production. It’s a very representative look at the trends that we’re shaping British pop in the early MTV era. The singles are really strong songs. The biggest weakness to me is that the album cuts just feel like reiterations of the singles.

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Apr 16 2024

This album has aged really really well. The rawness and vulnerability Alanis brought to the songs still feels fresh and the production feels really creative and savvy. So iconically 90’s! Only reason I wouldn’t give it 5 stars (…I’d go 4.5) is that the general tone gets a bit stale across a full album runtime for me, but almost every song is brilliant and thoughtful… absolutely worth a deep listen.

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Apr 17 2024
Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Apr 18 2024

Perfect start to finish. Some of the most brilliant melodies and structures in pop or psychedelia. Criminally overlooked in its time. Feels like they were trying to be the British Beach Boys in a way, but they landed on something really unique.

Architecture And Morality by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
Apr 19 2024

Really cool concept and atmosphere. Glad I checked this one out… feels very relevant to the electro-pop inspired indie that’s been coming out more recently. Similar in vibe to early Cure, Kraftwerk, Berlin-era Bowie, etc…
