Laidback 90s haunting vocals. Atmospheric instrumentals.
Amazing how someone could make something so beautiful at 18

Classic UK Rock.
Very London vibes. Good music for walking and moving around.
There’s some magical moments on here with
Parklife
The Debt Collector
To The End
Clover Over Dover
I’ve never known Damon alburn other than Gorillaz so it’s a trip hearing him sound so young.
Fun and upbeat. I’m hearing like Modest Mouse and Nirvana melodies. Lead singer is great and the way they incorporate other instruments well.
Hits:
Zuton Fever
Confusion
Not a Lot To Do
Remember me
Don’t Ever Think Too Much
This was so so. I think it was standard Rock the lead was lots of yelling. But hey yeah yeah yeahs it’s in their name so.
Favs:
Black Tongue
Pin

This is essential California rock. The story behind the making of the album definitely enhances the album but it just was a hit and miss. I liked every other song. Under the bridge was way better in the context of the album rather than just the famous single. Funny ending 😂
Favs:
Breaking The Girl
Suck My Kiss
Under the bridge (obvious pick)
Give it Away
Fun album. Lots of energy and Brazilian pride I like it a lot. Good for drives in the day
Standouts:
Camisa 10 De Gavea
África Brasil
Meus Filhos, Meu Tesouro
This is crazy. A bunch of cool electronic beats over some unique vocals and melodies
The first song is the best. Everything else just feels a bit empty.
Crazy how this grunge rock just took over. Some of it has glimpses of indie rock and what’s to come but it just doesn’t quite hit like nirvana or the strokes.
Ya I keep skipping songs and just wanna listen to nirvana
Sacred attention is alright. That’s what the album is coming off as. It’s alright. It’s not amazing it’s not bad but it’s background. I appreciate the challenge of listening to all these albums I was just waiting for it to get bad. And ya this is just meh. It’s like stereotypical rock music for “guy who does action movie”. And the vocals don’t punch he sounds a bit lazy. Maybe that’s the style. Idk it just isn’t hitting. Oh nevermind there’s some songs where they go crazy vocal wise.
It’s like a weird mish mash of genres they want to try out but it doesn’t go in any direction.
Emma get wild is fun. But vocals mehhh
Again best song is Soul and Fire the first song on the album
First mehh album of the 1001
Very on point 80s synth rock. The first song is a bit strange but from Bonny onward it’s a smooth laidback album. Lots of 80s samplers and synths being used for that classic feel. The lead singer is cheesy sounding but decent. Pretty mid though. It’s not a fantastic album like aja but not the worst. I wouldn’t hear this again front to back. Probably just the hits I like. Desire as is very peaceful sounding. It ends on a nice note as well just a weird beginning.
Highlights:
Bonny
Hallelujah
Desire As
When the Angels Sing
It’s crazy how Elvis Costello can make this specific sound like rock but that isn’t super aggressive but is storytelling and entertaining at the same time. It sounds like a lot of indie rock today. His voice seems timeless as well. I never realized how far his music career goes. It just isn’t for me
This album is very endearing so far. This is hell is a standout for sure. His voice is just incredibly unique. It reminds me of Damon Alburn had a baby with Anthony Kiedis. Like tinges of both.
This album is alright. favorite hour hurts his voice is tough to listen to. It just starts to wear on you after hearing it for so long. Good thing it was the last song
Highlights:
This Is Hell
Pixies — Surfer Rosa
Starts Off strong
Bone machine is a great change of pace very heavy stuff.
Broken face has a funny chorus with that squeaky sounding lead singer. It’s very punk sounds like it’s recorded in a garage.
Where Is My Mind is their magus opus easy.
Oh my golly was also good. I just feel this is pretty hit and miss for me then tapers off in the end.
Eerie introduction with the Bible verse. But it picks up quickly
The Man Comes Around showcases that Cash still had a strong voice and good ear for melody
Hurt absolutely smacks. It’s lyrically beautiful and Johnny Cash’s cover offers a darker perspective of the song rather than angst. It’s master class on how to properly cover a song. The story is he just initially read the lyrics and was down for it. Which was a smart move on Rick Rubin’s part. Absolutely amazing song.
Highlights:
Hurt
In My Life
Tear Stained Letter
Desperado
Let It Bleed - Rolling Stones
Gimme shelter is Such a banger to open on. This song has been everywhere. Every soundtrack, every movie, every sporting event. It’s very Americana.
Speaking of, Country Tonk song is good as well. You can hear their influences growing up and being inspired to make this sorta feel good bluegrass music.
This went all over and it was a wild ride to hear the rest. I liked it but didn’t love it.
You Can’t Always Get What You Want is sorta a meme cause of that House TV show haha but otherwise it feels like a culmination of all their ideas picked from each song of the album at the end
Pretty solid record
This is one of my absolute favorite albums. Front to back just essential indie rock. It’s gritty and heavy with some nice themes and tones throughout. This us definitely a must listen for anyone who enjoys rock.
Oasis — what’s the story morning glory
It’s decent. Very catchy lyrics and great guitar riffs.
Wonderwall is just unreal. Timeless song.
Good thing there’s more carrying this album than just that one song though.
Don’t Look Back in Anger is solid too. It has a lot of heart of sleeve feelings. And kinda of reminds me of grunge but set in the UK. Same with Hey Now.
Overall this album sets a great tone for a busy day walking around London. Has some elements of trip hop in Wonderwall.
Some Might Say is very retail store l music. Which I guess back then wouldn’t really be played at Target but I can see it now.
I think what they capture really well is just a positive, happy day, “it’ll get better” type of mentality. It’s uplifting
3/5
Nothing crazy but not awful
Favorite songs:
Wonderwall
Don’t Look Back in Anger
Cast No Shadow
Os Mutantes
The first song is good. It reminds me of the chaos in Sergeant Peppers.
O Relógio is insane. I love the reverb on the vocals and the dreamlike atmosphere.
Same with Le Priemer Bonheur Du Jour. It’s almost as if it matches the colors and visuals on the album cover. It’s mysterious, eerie, and haunting. The distorted piano section near the end is the cherry on top.
The ending was great too.
Ok this was a solid play. I wouldn’t buy it on vinyl but I like the ideas they played with. It felt very 60s and trippy so that was cool.
I really just liked the five songs and not much else
Rain Dogs - Tom Waits
The first thing that immediately popped out to me was the already strange instruments he tried to combine. Plus it has this sort of honky tonk rhythm like the band Primus.
Basically if you are into this sound, this record is killer if not, then you might hate it. It really sets a mood for a long walk thru New Orleans at night. His voice is so hoarse it seems over the top at first but it’s genuine, and it grows on you.
Especially after Rain Dogs, that is when it really clicked for me. Funny how he goes “1,2,3..” for a lot of the intros. It feels like he’s playing for you individually. And the more I read about his life it makes me all the more curious to see a performance on YouTube or something.
It’s a very like “oh I’m gonna drive for a while” vibes. Again circa Americana. It just is so smooth that it surpasses time and generations. I get it. 3/5 though I sometimes just cannot hang with this mood.
I mess with Gun Street Girl but not like Union Square. He sounds like he’s about to pop a vessel on that one haha.
Tom has crazy vocal range in Walking Spanish. It’s like he has peanut butter in the back of his throat and he’s just hawking it out. My god the beginning of Anywhere I Lay My Head has a jump-scare right at the beginning. But it comes around and you again can feel his genuine take on this sad song.
