1001 Albums Summary

Great album. You can definitely feel the influence of bands like the Prodigy in a lot of these tracks but there’s no denying this album and Moby himself left an indelible mark on electronic music. Some of it seems formulaic nowadays but it has that 90’s edge to it that definitely sets it apart. I prefer this to a lot of today’s cookie cutter, overproduced, ecstasy-fueled DJs that are plastered all over electronic festival bills.

Was always familiar with "Fire and Rain" but the rest I either hadn't heard or rarely heard. I don't know that Taylor's normal stuff really "speaks" to me but I was pleasantly surprised by the blues tracks on this album and really enjoyed them.

I went into this only knowing (and despising) the track “Breaking the Law”. Most of the album confirmed my assumption that Judas Priest was a pretty generic metal band, even for the late 70s early 80s. Their slower tracks felt like AC/DC stadium rock but without the heart (with the rock ballad “Red, White, and Blue” being downright bad). The two faster tracks “Rapid Fire” and “Steeler” were the only two tracks that felt better than okay, and even those felt like boring versions of Iron Maiden songs. Oh and I still hate “Breaking the Law”.

Opening track "Funky Music Sho Nuff Turns Me On" slaps. "Run Charlie Run"'s chorus is uh, a bit problematic so I don't have much to say about it. The remainder of the album has beautiful harmonies and has some great funk to it. "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" is classic.

Never heard of Pulp but from this album they sound like pretty generic David Bowie / The Cure inspired Brit prog rock. Honestly the lead vocalist sounded so much like Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords (definitely inspired some of their sound) I had a tough time taking them seriously.

Fantastic album. I know its singles were way overplayed but even the lesser played tracks were bangers.

Great album. Always enjoyed Kick Push and Daydreamin but the rest of the tracks are solid as well. More added into my rotation from this listen.

Pretty great psychedelic rock. Has a lot of his hits on it but some filler.

Typical sad 80's cocaine comedown music. It was fine I guess?

Flavor Flavs voice is grating, his rapping sucks, and he’s an annoying hype man. Chuck D was great though.

I actually really enjoyed this album. Never heard of Gang Starr but they had some interesting lyrics, kick ass beats, and great flow.

Solid album. Definitely had that 60/70s Rolling Stones rock feel to it.
