Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Aug 05 2024

First 2 tracks suck, but it builds as the album goes on. Band is talented, instruments are dynamic and layered well. Ozzy sucks and sounds tinny and muffled and like he was recorded in another room with shitty equipment. I’m sure it was mind-blowing at the time but it’s only okay to me hearing it the first time.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Aug 06 2024

Psychedelic rock infancy isn’t my jam. This is the soundtrack of a pretentious indie period movie from a wannabe Paul Thomas Anderson.

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Aug 07 2024

Wasn’t familiar with him but enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. There’s at least 3 recognizable songs. Good use of horns, piano, percussion, layering. Some tracks have a zydeco feel. Well produced, his vocal range is quite good and his voice is rich.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Aug 08 2024

Ehhhhhhhhh, there are some signs there but overall I don’t like it. Too bluesy. Always gonna be a band where I just want to hear their hits, I think.

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Aug 09 2024

Yeah, it’s a classic. It took me well into adulthood to even come close to appreciating the band and I still don’t go out of my way to listen, but I get it.

Aug 13 2024

It’s a classic. Dips a tiny bit in the middle but it’s good, it was groundbreaking, and it still hit hard.

The Beach Boys Today! by The Beach Boys
Aug 16 2024

Yeah, there’s a couple very well known, good songs, but the album sounds like crap. I don’t know if it was due to the era or they only had access to terrible equipment or the producing let it down, but it’s echoey, flat, muddy, there’s zero bass, and even the remaster sucks so I suppose the master sucked worse. That part’s a damn shame, I can see why they would’ve been popular then. Second half of the album is way too slow for me though.

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Aug 19 2024

Starts strong but drops off quick after the second track. Good opening riffs and sounds very on-brand, but the songs and lyrics are pretty forgettable after that first 10 seconds. They go on to do much better stuff, but I can imagine for the time of release it was well-received.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Aug 20 2024

Holy crap, what a dud after Rumours. Tusk is the only song semi-worthwhile and outside of it reminding me of The Americans it never did much for me either. The rest of the songs are completely forgettable.

A Northern Soul by The Verve
Aug 21 2024

It’s solid but started droning on. Kind of grungy, kind of sludgy, very 90s

Murmur by R.E.M.
