A good start to this 1001 albums thing. I have not heard Doors release before, so this was my first. The first half was definitely better than the second, but both halves were enjoyable. ‘Waiting For The Sun’ was my favourite song. I will be looking forward to listening to other Doors releases.

Yeah, I knew full well that I wouldn’t like this, and I don’t. I despise the vocals, they are so obnoxious and irritating. The guitar playing was pretty good, but that was far from enough to save the album. If you had to listen to an album with excellent guitar playing, but a fish making fish noises into a microphone over it, would you enjoy the album? The obvious answer would be no, but I honestly believe I would like the fish-rock more than this. The fish doesn’t think it’s a good singer. It didn’t choose to sing. Axl Rose, however, was fully aware of what he was doing when he decided to bless us all with his grating yelps. I think I have made my case clear.
Gorillaz have made some of my favourite albums of all time, and I have never heard a Blur album in full before, so when this album loaded I was eager to listen to it. However, the experience ended up being somewhat disappointing. While there were good songs sprinkled throughout the tracklist, the deep cuts were very bland and forgettable. The overall sound of the album was pretty bland too. There weren’t really any tracks I disliked, but I don’t ever see myself returning to this album.

Different Class by Pulp is the 5th album I have heard from this website, and it is also the only album I had not heard of prior. Because of this, I wasn’t as eager to listen to it as I had been for the other albums. Luckily, the album ended up being one of the best that I have been made to listen to so far. I have never been a big fan of Britpop, but after hearing this album I may reconsider my stance on the genre.
I wasn’t sure I would like this album, but it managed to surpass my expectations. Pet Sound is a cohesive and melodic album from the 1960s, and while I don’t agree that it is one of the best from that decade, I get why many people think it is. Most of the appeal (at least, for me) comes from the melodies in each song, which are masterfully composed and performed by Brian Wilson. This is the first album I have been given in this 1001 albums thing that I am sure I will be returning to.
You’d think he’d do something interesting at least once, even if by accident, in this albums 54 minute run time, but no. Not once. This album brings absolutely nothing into the world. It’s not enjoyable in the slightest, yet it also isn’t bad enough to laugh at. The sheer lack of any creativity at all is almost enough to earn this album a score of 1/5, in my opinion. However, I will refrain from giving out that score, to save it for the truly intolerable albums.
This album was a bit of a mixed bag. I liked a few songs, such as ‘Till Death Do Us apart’, ‘Dear Jessie’ and ‘Keep It Together’, but found some songs (Express Yourself, Cherish, Pray for Spanish Eyes) insufferable. The production was pretty good throughout the album. I can see why it would be included on this list, but it just wasn’t really for me. Act of Contrition was awesome though
I feel like realistically, this album is pretty good, but I’m just not a fan of the southern rock genre. Apart from the end of Free Bird (which was INCREDIBLE) I was pretty much just apathetic towards this album.
I loved how full of energy this album was. I have now heard 10 albums from this website, and even though that isn’t really much of an impressive milestone, I’m glad I got to listen to something this enjoyable for my 10th album. This is my second favourite album out of the 10 I have heard so far (Pet Sounds is my favourite), and I hope to hear more albums like this in the future.
Recently, I haven’t been enjoying music as much as I am used to. This album reminded me why I love music as much as I do. So thanks, Stevie Wonder.
