Great album - everything is just right. Nick’s voice is a hair shy, comfortable, and melancholy. The lyrics are even more melancholy, and whimsical. Despite that, the album feels equally as warm. The instrumentals are lush and plucky and everything comes together nicely. No one song particularly stands out as the Best - they’re all good, and they’re good together. Incredibly cohesive but still diverse with interesting melodies sprinkled across the whole thing. The layers of music are clean and fun to sift through. Perfect for a rainy day in.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
The Smashing Pumpkins
When I first looked at the track list and length of Mellon Collie, I thought some evil Spotify employee must be hiding the standard edition from me. Nope!!! This album’s long as hell.
It was daunting to start the two-hour listen, but thankfully this album kicks ass! It’s a master at balance. The soft-and-dreamy and edgy-intense-despiteallmyrageIamstilljustaratinacage hang around for just the right amount of time before things start switching up again.
The atmosphere really clicks, too. The instrumentals and Billy Corgan’s voice are like a peanut butter and honey sandwich. It’s all real good.
Awesome album!

Talking Heads 77
Talking Heads
As much as I tried not to, I had high expectations for this album because Psycho Killer is such a great song. I reckon it’s exactly those expectations that led to me not getting full enjoyment out of this album.
The album wasn’t bad by any means, but my experience kinda felt like this:
Tracks 1-9: Eh, this really isn’t as good as Psycho Killer
Track 10: Psycho killer… qu’est que ce’st?!
Track 11: Hey actually this one’s pretty cool too
Maybe another unbiased listen or two would allow me to appreciate the album more. Comparison was certainly the thief of my joy.

Fever To Tell
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
I love this album. The whole thing sounds like it was recorded in somebody’s garage with whatever was available. It’s raw and powerful.
91.67% of the songs (read: not Maps) are these cool, messy tracks, and then you get to Maps and it’s total tonal whiplash. Really - it’s so different I had to check if somebody else wrote it for the band (nope). No complaints, though - it’s a fantastic song and gives me chills every time.
Overall a real nice album!

Remain In Light
Talking Heads
Just a few days ago, I got Talking Heads ‘77 as my album of the day. While I didn’t dislike the album, the difference in quality between Psycho Killer and the rest of the album was pretty clear. Remain In Light, however, does not suffer the same issue. Each song is as bizarre and interesting as the last.
Usually I’m more privy to paying attention to the sound of an album over its lyrical content, but the lyrics here are really interesting. I’m sure someone with a more attentive mind and less sleep deprivation could discern the greater theme of the album. “Listening Wind” was particularly intriguing.
Cool album. Odd in the best way.
