Axis: Bold As Love
Jimi HendrixVery Jimi Hendrix. Funky beat, weird lyrics and he’s not too bad on the guitar considering he should be a bass player

Got sick of listening to it towards the end
Other than it being too long, I throughly enjoyed this album. So many hits and samples for future hits
I was pleasantly surprised, apparently I was not familiar with missy’s game like that. Some big name features definitely helped the album but I was not expecting to enjoy the solo tracks as much as I did. The best compliment I can give this album is that I even enjoyed the track with Luda on. Very much an album of its time and what a time it was for hip hop/R&B. Artists rarely make tracks like these anymore, very much hoping for that late 90’s and early-mid 00’s era to come back. Special shout out to the first 10 seconds of work it, so nostalgic
I can’t deal with that voice, I’m sure I’d really enjoy these songs if they were covered by talented singers. Unfortunately it was like listening to Johnny cash after a stroke in parts and the rest was reminiscent of a pissed bloke doing karaoke. It’s concerning that he was able to sing a disc worth of songs and they still allowed him to sing on disc 2. To top it off the average run time for each track felt like 10 minutes, I am angry that I had to endure 89 minutes of this shit
Oh shit….here we go again! I wanted to rip my ears off when I saw it was Bobby again today, I was pleasantly surprised compared to that sewage waste he spewed out of the wrong orifice yesterday but that’s like saying getting your head blown off by a sniper is a nicer way to go than blown up by a tank, either way you’re dead and happy to never have to listen to bob Dylan again. I will be here all day if I listed all the things I didn’t enjoy so I’ll stick to the pro’s of this album: it wasn’t that long, it wasn’t live so he doesn’t sound as bad and a handful of the songs were quite catchy. I’m still not sure why this guy is revered for his lyrics, perhaps I don’t know music all that well and I’m completely wrong but his lyrics seems fairly average
On first listen I was not having fun, the second listen was much better and the third accidental listen was also enjoyable to a point. It’s just not my cup of tea, I appreciate the cool ethereal instrumentals but I’d rather listen to something with lyrics, unless it’s Bob Dylan. The songs with lyrics weren’t doing it for me either. I don’t think it’s a bad album but it’s certainly not my kind of music. I’m neither high on drugs nor a space cadet, the man simply didn’t make his music for me I hold nothing against our dead David, I’m sure he’s got a couple of other albums on here and I may enjoy those more
Loved the disco album, what a way to start the morning. Even gave it a second listen, I was not aware of many songs by chic but I knew I loved the ones I’d heard. I was not disappointed with the rest of the album either, it may not have the same revere as a Bob Dylan or David Bowie album but for my personal taste this is a much better album than any other theirs
I heard elements of Peace and Superfood in a number of the songs, not sure if Dirty Projectors are known for unusual melodies and lyrics but this album seemed full of them. Having said that, I am a fan of Superfood and Peace so in turn I did enjoy those fleeting moments of reminiscence. Initial thoughts were a 4 but the songs kept getting weirder and/or worse. By the time Useful Chambers ended I was really missing the opening few tracks, what a fucking weird song that was or should I say songs because I didn’t know if I was coming or going during the never ending changes. You wouldn’t believe my sheer delight to hear No Intention, I thought it was a resurgence and the album was ending the way it began. Unfortunately, the penultimate song did not live up to its predecessor and i was left pondering if the album would end on a high like I expected or go back to the middle offerings. Lo and behold I was brought back to what I enjoyed about the start of the album… nonsense lyrics and what I can only describe as erratic melodies. Overall it was pretty middle of the road, nowhere near the terrible depths of our dear dead David or the tone deaf Dylan but could not compete with the ever seeing Stevie or club classic Chic. Fair to say this did not get a second listen
As much as I enjoy the smiths, I much prefer them in a playlist so I’m not listening to constant melancholy from morrissey. That was not an ideal way to start the morning, I felt like I was mourning by the time I was finished getting ready in the morning. No tracks really stood out for me, thought they were all okay-good but they kind of blurred into one after a while. I may have been the architect of my own downfall with this rating, have I given myself morrissey fatigue by listening to him too much over the years or did I really just not enjoy this album that much?
Absolutely loved this! Only issue I had was walking into work feeling like a natural black woman in chains, at least I think that’s what she was singing about. In all seriousness, I have a real affinity with this era of music. I grew up listening to a lot of these songs thanks to my mom. Chain of fools, A Natural Woman and Aint No Way are 3 classics but People Get Ready is one of my favourite songs of all time. Admittedly I prefer the original and I was in horror when I covered that Bob Dylan had the sheer audacity to cover the song, if I die having never heard that version I will count that as a successful life. Good to Me as I Am to You starts so beautifully and only gets better when Aretha starts to belt and shows why she is the queen of soul. I appreciated the sprinkling of more upbeat “poppy” songs like Come Back Baby and Niki Hoeky intertwined with soul and talent across the rest of the album. I struggle to listen to aretha without being in awe of her power as a vocalist mixed with such soothing tones in her softer register
Full of anthems. Honestly really enjoyed this album, great way to start a Monday. Stand out songs for me were the titular song, no surrender and glory days. Having said that, there was a song I didn’t enjoy. I guess that’s why they call him the boss
It was likely brilliant for its time but what a dreary album, her voice is sounds like she’d smoked a few too many or she had a terrible chest infection. Enjoyed the first few songs but it got boring really quick and I could’ve done with 3 versions of the opening song. Would love to comment on the audio story song but after 30 seconds of what I can only imagine would’ve been the longest 9 minutes of my life, I had to skip it. I’d love to say more about this album but it was very unforgettable
Miserable and morbid but I’ve heard worse albums. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard joy division and I hope it’s a while before I listen to them again. Respect to anyone who can listen to them regularly and will sit through an album of theirs through choice. It started off okay but after a couple of tracks I just wanted it to end, which is what I imagine a lot of their listeners are thinking but not necessarily about the album or song. The best thing I can say about this album is that it was quite short, thankfully. I guess I’ll never know the pleasures of liking this band
Loved it, reminds me of listening to Gold 60’ Sundays on the radio with my mom. Wasn’t a bad song on the album but stands out for me were: Mrs Robinson (an all time favourite of mine), Save the Love of My Child is amazing and really enjoyed At the Zoo to finish it off.
Loved the back to back 60’s albums. Again, there wasn’t a song I didn’t like so I won’t list the stand outs. All in all it was a great album if you like this era of music
What a crock of shit. I remember listening to this bollocks as a kid, I clearly didn’t inherit my dad’s love of punk rock because I couldn’t wait to never have to hear Iggy Pops voice again (unless they have another bastard album on this list). Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all bad, infact the only thing I hated was iggy’s voice. The rest of the band are pretty talented and if it was just an instrumental album I would’ve toe tapped my way through the just over half hour album. Unfortunately we don’t live in an alternate universe where iggy pop was just a weirdo with a run of the mill job, who knew he sounded like a fox getting gang banged whenever he attempted to sing. As such I had a miserable time listening to this nonsense. I’m sure there’s a place for this album on the list because of its influence on the punk rock genre, however, this did not do it for me at all. To end on a slightly positive note, it was more enjoyable than iggy’s swift card adverts back in the day
Rock you really set the tone of the album for me with a stand out beat, lyrical mastery and simple chorus that carries the song from verse to verse. Didn’t pay attention to song titles after the first track as I was genuinely lost in the music…until halfway through “water”, what the fuck was all that about. Perhaps Sean has an intellectual breakdown of the artistry of the track because I was left confused and quite frankly disappointed. Thankfully normal service resumed on the next song. Thoroughly enjoyed the album and will definitely go back and give it a listen along with their other works. I’ve never really given the roots any attention and now I’m regretting it, this album reminded me how incredible the hip hop genre can be. Engaging storytelling, beats that make me zone out and not even register the lyrics at times, old school flows that blend so beautifully with elements of r&b and soul. What other genre can have a song like pussy galore, from the title and chorus it would be easy to assume it’s just an old version of a lot of the bullshit that rappers make these days but each verse was such a juxtaposition of those assumptions. Rhymes and ammo seemed like it was just them flexing their rapping and lyrical talent. What a great way to bring the album to its crescendo with arguably the most 00’s sounded track. Unfortunately they ended things with techno, I’m all for artist showing range but it seemed very out of place. Personally I think you’d be hard served to find a better era of rap than the mid 90’s to early 00’s and this album is further proof of that. Sadly what would’ve been a 5 star was ruined by water and thirsty, if you can think of a witty joke in relation to those titles and my opinion please let me know
