Doggystyle
Snoop Dogg
Opening skit screams ‘90s. Dr Dre’s signature production sound from the start. Surprised Gin and Juice is this old. Main themes: smoking weed and overt misogyny. Haven’t stopped nodding my head since the album started. Highlights: Murder Was the Case, Gz and Hustlas.

Aqualung
Jethro Tull
Going into this listen, all I know about Jethro Tull is Ian Anderson plays a mean flute. Tempo change in Aqualung still rocks. Hard not to feel like you're frolicking in a field of daisies while listening to most of these songs. I liked a couple of songs, but none of these will be going into regular rotation. Highlights: Aqualung, Up to Me, Hymn 43.

In A Silent Way
Miles Davis
What a great listen. Only two pieces but they each move in so many directions. You can feel the anguish and disparate realities of 1969 permeate. But the drums, particularly the hi-hats, give them a forward momentum in spite of all they're up against. A glimmer of light through the clouds. Miles Davis at his best.

Live At The Harlem Square Club
Sam Cooke
I love live-recorded albums, so long as they sound this good. Sam Cooke had such a great voice - so strong with the perfect amount of rasp. Sounds like he's playing with a quartet (drums, bass, guitar, sax). Love the melodic interplay between his vocals and the sax. It's very cool that he's able to ask the crowd to sing along with him. He must be performing standards because everyone there knows the words. Would've been so cool to be there.

Willie Nelson
Good old Willie! Wow, this album came out in 1979 so I guess his voice has always sounded like that. Weird this album came out when they were in their "Outlaw" phase when it's such a chill rendition of old hits. To me, this album is fine. Not my thing.

Iggy Pop
I mean, I get it. Iggy Pop is one of those dudes for a reason. Sounds like David Bowie and Billy Idol. Still, it's not my thing. Highlights: Lust For Life, The Passenger, Fall in Love With Me.

Beautiful Freak
Eels
Wasn't sure where this was headed with the opening line "Life is hard and so am I" but not to worry, it got great quick. How did I not know about this band/album? It's right up my 90s alt alley. Highlights: Rags to Rags, Novocaine for the Soul, Your Lucky Day in Hell.
