I think it's interesting that although the first track on the album, Subterranean Homesick Blues, feels and reads so much as a lamentation of wanting to return to the normalcy of his home and of his forewarning to others who would follow in his footsteps of infamy to look out for certain archetypes and schisms that are laying out around the world, this album was seen as a backstabbing in terms of his deviation from blatant political war cries. Maybe by the standard of their time, statements of defiance needed to be blatant and in your face, in a way that this album certainly isn't. I think many of the songs I get political undertones from could also double as songs of love and sadness, like Maggie's Farm and Outlaw Blues. Overall, this album feels very much cemented into it's time, and there were many times I had to research the intention behind a few lyrics, which is, I think, important in the pursuit of understanding days gone by in all forms of record keeping.

This album is so dreamy the entire day I've spent listening to it I feel like I've been floating on a pink cloud. The instrumentals and lyrics of this piece are so hauntingly beautiful it feels like Kate Bush is singing to you from the other end of an empty hallway at a church or cemetery. Is this an album I would have listened to unprompted? Maybe. I think I would have eventually stumbled onto it and it probably would have found me exactly where it wanted me. At least now I'm prepared for when the time comes.

Interesting...This is not an album I can say I thoroughly enjoyed by any means. I think for most of my listening experience I just got reminded of shitty ska bands that would play in the beginning of a cheesy movie from the early 00's, however once I noticed that this album was made in 1994, I can see that it was probably ahead of its time, and maybe even the inspiration for the former. The album does take a more enjoyable turn after track 7. The Debt Collector, which makes me think maybe the track filled with polka music acts as a divider between the music they wanted to make and the music their label forced them to make. Although this is certainly not an album I would have listened to on my own by any means, and had this been an independent listening session I definitely would've abandoned ship in the middle of Tracy Jacks (despite it being stuck in my head several hours later), I am glad that i stuck it through if only for the saving grace of track 15. This Is a Low, which is a beautiful beautiful song that brought this album from a 1 star to a 2.

This is an interesting album to me. The instrumentals remind me of those old YouTube radio videos where someone would compile vibrant songs from the 20th century and create an atmosphere that puts you into the country and time period it describes. I thoroughly enjoyed my listening experience, and it is an album that I would listen all the way through again, but I'm not particularly moved by the child of a famous artist, nevertheless the grandchild of a politician, singing about having shame in being laborers and maids. I enjoyed this one! Particularly a fan of the more dopey-lovey ones like track 3. Picture This and track 5. Pretty Baby. I donโt think I would have listened to this entire album on my own, but i do have memories of listening to Heart of Glass on my momโs iPod when i was like 6 years old, so for that track in particular, maybe I would have ventured out into the blondie-verse.

This is the work of a man who knew he was dying, through all of the songs of end-of-life lamentations, lyrics both welcoming and damning death on his white horse. You can feel the treble and gravity of his voice as he worked through hospital stints and declining health to finish an album that might literally be the embodiment of the true American Spirit. I can't lie, at first glance I was not feeling this album just based off the cover art alone. HOWEVER, I can appreciate the sentiment of singing off key without a care in the world and the idea of being a mega bitch and telling people to just deal with it.

This is quite literally the first time I've had an out of body experience upon hearing someone playing the guitar, genuinely listening to this album feels like being on the highest peak of a rollercoaster that's about to go down. Good God Almighty this album is so excellent in such a full bodied and high spirited way, Jeff Beck you single handedly have given early British Rock a semblance of credibility.
