Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Mar 25 2025

Feels like the instrumentals often overpower the vocals, it appears "hide in your shell" was the (finger quotes) emotional song on the album but the lyrics still take a backseat. Dreamer sounds like the Supertramp I am familiar with, with the keyboard and vocals, which makes sense as this was 3 full albums before breakfast in america. Everything i read about this album talks about how great it is at talking about "young adult confusion" and while the production is good and the use of sax/piano/keyboard is really cool, the "message" is kind of lost in translation for me. Idk, maybe it's something that was more "emotional" back then when people didn't talk about their feelings as much, the lyrics i've read aren't bad just not as like "deep" as i expected. Overall, would I listen again? I do not think so, if i had to replay a song i'd pick school or dreamer, overall, i'd rate it 6.5/10.

Lost In The Dream by The War On Drugs
Mar 26 2025

Opener song "under the pressure" feels like it matches the "theme" of the album closer to the end with the like, 3/4 minute wooey woo instrumental (he said before he realized every song had a wooey woo instrumental). Another "vibes heavy" prog rock album, the more spacey songs are pleasant but not super engaging otherwise, The Haunting Idle is just 3 minutes of reverbed guitar strumming and other random chords which i think the album could do without. It is easy to hear the Dylan/Springsteen influence in some of the guitar and vocals (eyes to the wind, burning), but like - I'd rather just listen to Springsteen or Dylan. The drums really do sound the same on every song which isn't the worst thing ever but does not help anything either. 4.7/10.
