Reggatta De Blanc
The Police
It was fun! Probably the first reggae rock album I’ve listened to in full and damn there were some grooves on there. Like a more fun, more concise London calling. Really my only complain is stings voice I just can’t get into it

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs
Derek & The Dominos
Took me a while to finally get through the whole thing but I do like how consistently well produced and pretty it sounds. Just a bit too boomer rocky for me but I could definitely see myself enjoying it much more when I’m drunk next to a body of water. Some songs overstay their welcome but I guess that’s kind of the point

Imagine
John Lennon
Yeah idk man I’m kinda torn on this one. At its worst, it’s self indulgent, the vocal mixing is ass, and the front half feels like he’s trying to recreate the whimsical half baked ideas on the white album. But at its best, the ballads are very vulnerable and sweet sounding, George’s contributions are stellar, and the back half is much more consistent in general. Rounding up to a 3 because the runtime is perfect and doesn’t overstay its welcome

Songs For Swingin' Lovers!
Frank Sinatra
Absolute snoozefest. Not denying sinatras vocal ability, but every song is the exact same and the chord progressions are painfully predictable. I guess you have to be a swing lover who also knows what it feels like to be loved in order to enjoy this. I guess I wouldn’t mind it as background music at a party/date, but that’s about it

You've Come a Long Way Baby
Fatboy Slim
Always happy to find more instrumental albums for work! Nothing super interesting tbh and a lot of the 90s era hip hop sounds have dated a lil imo, but it’s still a nice groovy background listen while trying to stay focused

Automatic For The People
R.E.M.
Very safe 90s alternative rock but that’s not by any means a bad thing. Some real smooth sounding stuff on here, will definitely be revisiting when I need some alt rock that isn’t the strokes or interpol

Let's Stay Together
Al Green
Very one note and predictable but I guess that’s just what these type of genres are like. Still, very smooth, soulful, and vibey way to start the day. Also would probably like it more if I knew what love felt like

Locust Abortion Technician
Butthole Surfers
Very very uhhhh interesting. At its best there’s some sick ass noise rock that reminds me of swans or even some shoegaze. Love it for its variety and risks, but there are definitely some weird parts that I cringe at. Could definitely see myself liking it (or disliking it) more on more listens

A Date With The Everly Brothers
The Everly Brothers
Yeah it’s predictable and exactly what I expected from this genre but it’s still nice listening. Just wish older bands experimented more. I’m so sick of that tired ass rock n roll chord progression (looking at you Lucille)

Don't Stand Me Down
Dexys Midnight Runners
Gorgeous. Beautifully produced, beautiful melodies, and very intimate vocals. Didn’t pay too much attention to the vocals (never really do on first listens bc I’m always trying to multitask) but will on another listen. Felt a little overindulgent the first few songs but that quickly became less and less of an issue. Glad I gave this one a chance

Hybrid Theory
Linkin Park
Kicks ass. The rock/rap hybrid doesn’t age super well at times but it’s still a very unique and consistent listen. Goes even harder when on a run

Pearl Jam
Banger after banger. Some hard hitting stuff on here that reminds me of like a mix of blood sugar sex magik and Metallica in the best ways possible. Was most impressed with how consistent it stayed till the end. But man I just can’t fully accept Eddie vedders voice that’s really the only thing that drags it down for me

Let England Shake
PJ Harvey
First pj harvey album I’ve listened to and my GOD the bar has been set high. Absolutely gorgeous, ethereal, richly layered, etc. I’m a sucker for some somber chord progressions with some horns thrown in. It might lose its momentum a bit towards the end but that might just be because I have a short attention span and need to revisit the last few songs another time. But still rounding up for how incredible it is as a whole

Illinois
Sufjan Stevens
First album to pop up in this listen that I already know and love, and listening to it all the way through only reinforced that love. One of the most intricately crafted, dense, gorgeous albums I have ever heard. Even if it’s not your style (it’s certainly very theatrical at times) you can’t deny the pure talent and effort that went into it. Not to mention all the research put into the Illinois lore. Truly a one of a kind album

Fear Of Music
Talking Heads
Solid 7/10 but rounding up because of the love I have for this band. To me there’s a noticeable difference in quality between this and the classics that are speaking in tongues and remain in light, but this is still a very fun, consistent listen. It’s cool to hear a lot of their initial ideas that continue to develop into perfection in those subsequent two albums. Really my only complaint is how weird and muffled the sound mixing is a lot of times. Maybe that’s the point? Especially with the song heaven kind of sounding like the vibe of a local band playing in the corner of a dim dive bar. But I can’t help but feel all the “stop making sense” versions of this songs are better. Still, a very fun listen overall
