Superunknown by Soundgarden
Apr 15 2025

I listened to the "20th Anniversary Edition" on Spotify. Maybe not quite what I would listen to normally. I've never been into grunge, but there is no denying that Chris Cornell has a great and distinctive voice. He puts a lot emotion to the lyrics that he's singing. The themes are quite dark. For me I see as an album about self-exploration and self-discovery of especially the more darker sides of yourself. Besides "Black Hole Sun" (which is obviously a classic) it's the first time hearing the songs on the album. I really didn't like "Kickstand" and "Half". Those could easily have been left out. 8/10 Favs: - Black Hole Sun - Fell on Black Days - Limo Wreck - The Day I Tried to Live

All Directions by The Temptations
Apr 16 2025

Listened on Spotify. This is my second album by The Temptations. The first I listened to was their debut album "The Temptations Sings Smokey", which is a great album. "All Directions" is much more experimental and have some serious themes in the lyrics. The only song I knew before listening was "Papa Was Rolling Stone" which is among my favorite songs. It is a masterpiece! "Run Charlie Run" is lyrically interesting, but not one of my favorites to listen to. Favorites: - Papa Was a Rolling Stone - I Ain't Got Nothing - Mother Earth 7/10

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Apr 17 2025

Listened on Spotify. So today it is a hip hop album. Not one of my favorite genres. The first track is a play on nursery rhymes and it's about bragging. Not really to my taste. "It's Tricky" is a fun and catchy track and so is "Walk This Way". I see this as an album about pride. It's about pride of where you're coming from and pride in what you have achieved and your talents, but most importantly about black pride. Favorites: - It's Tricky - Walk This Way - Raising Hell My rating: 6/10

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Apr 18 2025

Listened on Spotify. So this will be my second listen of "Channel Orange", and this time I had a much better experience. Frank Ocean's voice is great and the lyrics are really good and touches on a lot of different things like unrequited love, privilege, loss of identity, sexuality and spirituality. It's a great album! Favs: - Pyramids - Thinkin Bout You - Lost - Super Rich Kids - Sweet Life 9/10

Apr 21 2025

This is my third time listening to this album and it is really not my thing. It has also stopped me from listening to anything else from Talking Heads, so maybe I should just move on from this album and give something else on their discography a chance. I can appreciate what they are doing lyrically and satirically, but musically it's not for me. Favs: - The Good Thing - I'm Not in Love - Take Me to the River 5/10

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Apr 22 2025

This is my first time listening to Jefferson Airplane album. I have of course heard "Somebody to Love", but other than that all the songs are new to me. The album contains some very strong songs, but it also has some songs that I don't care for. Grace Slick's voice is fantastic! Favorite tracks: - Somebody to Love - White Rabbit - Today - Comin' Back to Me

Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers
Apr 24 2025

An interesting listen. I know some of the hit singles by The Chemical Brothers but has never dived into any of their albums. It is a pleasant listen with many shifts in style and beats throughout the album. Favs: - Leave Home - One Too Many Mornings - Alive Alone

Strange Cargo III by William Orbit
Apr 25 2025

This is not an album for me. It all ended up sounding like ambience while doing something else. I had a hard time really listening to it because it just became background music. It is not bad, but not that interesting either. Favorite track was the opening number "Water from a Wine Leaf".

Yank Crime by Drive Like Jehu
Apr 30 2025

Nope! This is not for me at all.

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
May 01 2025

Wow! I have never heard about Mercury Rev before, and that's a shame, because I found this album to be incredible. It sounds excellent and has some really good songs. This could easily be one of my new favorites. Favorites: - Holes - Endlessly - Goddess on a Hiway - Opus 40 - Tonite It Shows

Tommy by The Who
May 03 2025

A lot of firsts on this listening journey, and this was my first listen to an album by The Who. "Tommy" is an album that tells the story of the remarkable life of Tommy. A fun idea and a story open for interpretation. The album is a good listen and I could see myself listening to it again, but it didn't blow me away on my first listen.
