Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Apr 16 2025

Love Nina Simone. A decent selection of tunes and as always incredibly soulful. I do think Pastel Blue is her greatest work.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
Apr 17 2025

Jangly and weird - just the way I like it. Such an original and unorthodox band both out of time and timeless simultaneously. I've often wondered if it's the tension between the overly straight drumming and the rest of the band's peculiarities that make TH work or if it held them back from being even more interesting. I favor the latter. Solid album end to end.

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Apr 18 2025

I have no patience for Paul Simon. His music is always too cute by half. Very well played, but it always comes across for me as smug and happy with itself. I find it boring and obnoxious mostly.

Who's Next by The Who
Apr 21 2025

For a brief while in the late 90s, I played music with a dude who saw The Who as the greatest band ever. I've heard a lot of bands held up as the greatest, The Beatles, The Stones, Sabbath, Zep are common ones. I'd never heard of anyone who thought The Who was the greatest until that point. I can buy the arguments for any of the more commonly named as the greatest, but I don't get the hype for The Who. They're fine as they go. They have some definite bangers, but overall their music is pedestrian and wears on me at album length. This albums inclusion in the 1001 for me is an indicator of the age of the folks who participated in the polls that led to the lists creation. Put simply, this album is terrible. It's boring and predictable and I'm no fan of the sound.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Apr 23 2025

I've been down all the roads that run parallel and cross over this one so I am very familiar with the territory and don't feel like I've discovered much by listening to this all the way through. I'm sure in its original context this probably is more noteworthy and I feel like I'm coming into it wrong footed.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Apr 24 2025

At the risk of losing my inheritance, I never liked The Stones. Jagger's voice always annoyed me and they sound so of a time. Somehow The Stones have six albums in the 1001 which I am now questioning. Surely, they should have chosen one album to represent their catalog. Surely, there are five other non-Stones albums that deserve the designation. Maybe this is a mistake after all.
