Revolver by Beatles
Apr 22 2025

the weed album. exponential songwriting growth not just for lennon/mccartney but for harrison too. almost loses a star because there isn't enough of lennon's sardonic wit on gooday sunshine, which is so saccharine it gave me multiple cavities. but Here, There, and Everywhere, Got to Get You Into My Life, and For No One really show how McCartney's powers were approaching full Super Saiyan status.

With The Beatles by Beatles
Apr 26 2025

Iconic because of the cover photo and because it broke them in the US. I love it because of all the doo-wop and girl group covers. Not only highlights how much girl groups influenced them, but shows how amazing they were at combining girl group vocals (lots of refrains and dual lead vocals) with Buddy Holly-esque songwriting. Also was the album that gave us She Loves You, which to me is the quintessential early Beatles record.

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
Apr 30 2025

I haven’t finished this yet to be fair, I’m 3/4 of the way through. But I like it. The lyrics are good, they kept pulling me into each song. And the opening being Next We Take Berlin, with industrial style instrumentation is over the top, but also such a definitive snapshot of the 80s. Cold War, excess, 1984 vibes. I can’t help but think that’s what he was aiming for. Made me want to give Leonard Cohen’s discography another try. Also curious to see who didn’t like this but liked Pulp. Jarvis Cocker clearly loved this album. It sounds like the proto-Pulp. Personally I love Pulp, which probably explains why I like this too.

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
May 01 2025

Great production. His jehovah witness shines through a little too much by indicating smoking weed leads to heroin, but I digress. Besides his production and musical ability, the lyrical direction Prince takes is fun. Embarrassed I didn't know the verse from '03 Bonnie and Clyde was from a Prince song. It’s interesting that he used more automated instrumentation on this after breaking up with his band. This review is crap, but this album is amazing

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
May 02 2025

Didn’t finish but great lyrics from the ones I did. Marianne is a bop.

The College Dropout by Kanye West
May 03 2025

Kanye had (has?) so much talent. This album just makes me sad for all the things we've lost. Also forgot that I know 90% of the words, and that it ushered in a whole new sound for music.

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
May 06 2025

Feels like an album I should be sipping tea too, while staring wistfully out the window of my cottage at my wildflower garden on a foggy day.
