OK REM. Not my favorite. Marks the shift into more mainstream rock/pop than indie. More produced. Less jangly.
Some great songs that capture Morrissey's uncanny balance of pathos/humor. This isn't as great as The Queen Is Dead or Meat is Murder. Its not as unfettered. Maybe it was good they ended things here. But I'm not sure if maybe I'm asking too much as a band matures. Or is it me that wants the shock of the new that fit neatly with where I was in life.
Such a great album! All energy. Basic but not simple. How do they get this energy out of such stripped down instruments? Felt fresh when it came out. Still does today.
Not my thing
I'm a sucker for psychedelic rock. I'm not as familiar with the entire album but this is what you want to have on headphones on a beautiful sunny day walking along the beach.
Its fine. The big hits are still fun to get back into that headspace of teenage hair band rock. But not much for me beyond nostalgia. In other words I'm not popping this on for a drive or a weekend afternoon.
One of my favorite all time albums
Loved this at the time. Feels a little dated listening now. Still like the psychedelic pop vibe but the lyrics feel a bit amateur
Love this album. A mature Beck emerges from the free styling kinetic energy of his earlier releases. Iām still a bigger fan of the early stuff but this is solid.
Didn't really know this album - except for A Forest which must have been released on a subsequent album. Much more subtle and restrained than the later albums which I like.
