Heroes by David Bowie
May 15 2025

This one didn't quite land for me, both halves of the album sound nice enough but I don't find myself wanting to listen again. On side one I like Beauty and the Beast and Heroes but the rest are forgettable, and on side two I think the ambient soundscape thing is interesting but not really for me.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
May 16 2025

Man, what an incredible album. The lyrics are strong (although imo too cute at times (looking at you, Decatur)) and you can tell all the references are well-researched. The star of the show is the composition, I was blown away the entire album. Favorites are Come On! Feel the Illinois! and The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us!

Fear Of A Black Planet by Public Enemy
May 19 2025

I've had Public Enemy on my to-listen list for a while and this album didn't disappoint. I love the sample-heavy style, my favorites are Brothers Gonna Work It Out and Who Stole The Soul? but I also have a soft spot for the pettiness in Incident At 66.6 FM

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
May 20 2025

I appreciate the emotion and energy this has, but I just can't get past not really liking her voice, and the instrumentals are whatever for me. All I Really Want and Right Through You are pretty good.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
May 21 2025

I came into this not having listened to much Johnny Cash before and I enjoyed it a lot. The live format works really well, it gives the whole thing a tangible human quality and I liked being able to see the two-way communication that music can create that you don't always see from concerts. Favorites are Starkville City Jail and San Quentin

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
May 22 2025

This one is famous for side 2 being one long song, but I wasn't really into it to be honest. I did like side 1 a little more, this may be an insane comparison but My Mirage reminded me very strongly of Aerosmith's Dream On (in a good way).

Guero by Beck
May 23 2025

I feel very meh about this one. I like the first few songs, especially E-Pro and Qué Onda Guero, but then it just kinda drones on and I don't get much out of it after that.

May 26 2025

I thought this was alright. I really like it when it's a little more energetic, especially the horns sections, but when it slows down it loses me a bit. Favorite songs are So in Love and Love to the People.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
May 27 2025

This one is very pleasant, all the arrangements are minimalistic but Nelson's voice is great and they're all classic pop songs. Favorites are Blue Skies and Don't Get Around Much Anymore

Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
May 28 2025

I didn't like this one much at all, really dislike the first half but the instrumentals on most of the songs in the back half are pretty good (still don't like the vocals). Just barely enough to turn 1 star into 2 for me

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
May 29 2025

This is a really good album, I was already a fan of CSNY but I hadn't listened to much of any of their solo stuff before. It's not quite all bangers but it's pretty close, favorites are Southern Man and Don't Let It Bring You Down

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
May 30 2025

I feel meh about this one, it doesn't sound bad but it also doesn't do all that much for me

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Jun 02 2025

I really wanted to like this one and there are songs that I like a lot including Roadhouse Blues and Ship of Fools, but the songs I don't like as much end up feeling pretty grating to the point that the album is just 'meh' overall for me

Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jun 03 2025

I'm a certified Red Hot Chili Peppers hater, I tried to give this album a fair shot at changing my mind but it didn't

Tigermilk by Belle & Sebastian
Jun 04 2025

I like the first few songs but it gets old quickly for me. Favorites are Expectations and She's Losing It

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Jun 05 2025

This one hits hard, very rawly emotional, and very sparse which adds to the effect. Favorites are Speakin' Out and Borrowed Tune

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Jun 06 2025

I like this one a lot, normally I prefer songs that focus on the lyrics more but I'm so blown away by the soundscape the album creates that it overrides that preference. Favorites are Fight Test and Do You Realize??

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Jun 09 2025

I'm a big fan of this one, I hadn't heard of Nick Drake before but I'm a sucker for a singer/songwriter that starts including horns and woodwinds. Favorites are Hazey Jane II and One Of These Things First
