Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Jun 03 2025

Very familiar even though I’ve only heard a couple of these tracks before. Not sure if it would have an impact today. Was not expecting the John Denver track at the end - was that on the album?

Aja by Steely Dan
Jun 04 2025

I like Steely Dan but I have to be in the right mood to listen to more than one track at a time. This was a good test. I might have to listen to this album a few times before I give a rating.

The Genius Of Ray Charles by Ray Charles
Jun 05 2025

Everybody knows Ray Charles, or at least they should do. This album shows why.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Jun 06 2025

BAZINGA! A solid five stars for this one. One of my favourite albums of all time.

Jun 08 2025

This album was very different at the time especially for an American band. Jocko Homo is still the stand out track.

Ctrl by SZA
Jun 09 2025

Not my usual earfodder and although some of this was interesting, I can’t bring myself to be engaged by it. Unremarkable.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jun 10 2025

Great South African Rhythms, great songs with 4 world wide no1 hit singles. A gateway to African music for those who didn’t already know. Something of a reinvention for Paul Simon.

Night Life by Ray Price
Jun 11 2025

This one was new to me so as far as this 1,001 Album Challenge goes, this is why I’m doing it. Although the first impression was - eek Country Music - I did enjoy this album. HonKy Tonk Angels was a nice surprise. Great production values - I can see some of these tunes being used in a Tarantino film.

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
Jun 12 2025

Another new name for me. Pleasant, inventive, original, a bit dull.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

Not the Beach Boys album I would have chosen, this was a revelation. Especially today. I can see why in 1971 this album was not well received. My young self would not have been impressed. Listening to this today, the songs sound fresh and relevant. Complex and Beautiful.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Jun 14 2025

Not heard this before and after the first two tracks it went in a different direction. I liked this album and that was a surprise.

Fly Or Die by N.E.R.D
Jun 15 2025

cross-genre goodness

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Jun 17 2025

We know it for the smash hit of course but this album is full of bangers

Wild Gift by X
Jun 22 2025

ok I guess for 1981

Whatever by Aimee Mann
Jun 23 2025

Better than I remember

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jun 24 2025

Heard of him but never listened before. Good stuff.
